The point was, nobody is imposing anything on you. If you don't like the burqa you're free not to wear it. End of story.

Looks like I`ll have to spell it out for you. People creeping around with their faces hidden imposes a lower standard of social conditions.  Could anything be more obvious?

I don't see how.....
But anyway, I'm against banning the full body robes and veils.....
In some cases, I think they should be made compulsory.......after, there are some scarey looking, non-muslim people walking around out there who'd benefit from those fullcoverage robes....

No, it`s them imposing their garbage on us.

Imposing? You want to ban their clothing because you think it is offensive, but they are imposing on you? You turn the concept of live and let live on it's head.

No it doesn't. Not in any objective way. It's all in your mind. You could make a more realistic case for women wearing a low cut dress lowering the standard, but it is not standards you are actually worried about is it?

It is certainly difficult, to imagine so much controversial debate by the same proponents over the question of removing motor bike helmets and other hoods in public buildings...

I have no doubt, that there is a large element of bigotry in the agendas of those who wish to ban the burqa...

Crap.

Helmet wearers do not insist on keeping their helmets on, no matter where they are or what anyone else thinks or says.

Bigotry? That`s idiotic, I wear a full face helmet while riding, but nowhere else, for the same reasons that the burqa should be banned.

Er.... not quite.

British schools where girls must wear the Islamic veil
Hundreds of girls are bring forced by British schools to wear the Islamic veil in a move which has been heavily criticised by mainstream Muslims.

Soren, AA obviously doesn`t grasp the concept of freedom, and a free living society.  This is what I tried to convey by the light rebuke of her shallow thinking. There are those, immigrants and weak minded Australians, who would love to turn this beautiful country into a poo hole like Baghdad or similar. The immigrants have this mindset out of ignorance, and a lack of respect for Australia, the Australians are simply air headed, shallow thinkers.

Soren, in that case the girls are being forced by their parents to wear the burqa as it is the parents who choose to send their daughters to that school.

There is a big difference between stripping a person of their right to cover if they wish and allowing anybody to force them to.

Aussiefree2ride, if the racist crap you spew here is evidence of deep thought, give me shallow anytime.

It's the school that prescribes the covering - i.e. it is intitutional. A parallel institutionality. It is an institutional accommodation of parental bigotry, hostility and separatism.

Racist crap? Give me one example?
It`s not racist to not want one`s country to resemble any one of thousands of Middle Eastern cess pits. Wake up AA, you don`t know how lucky you are to live here.

The burqa should be banned because motorbike helmets are uncomfortable?

Do you think banning the burqa protects freedom?
