you understand only that which you can google. it is a waste of time arguing with twits like you.

We don't have to google it because we understand it from University Wink

Correct Nail.
Longweekend thinks that radio waves can be propagated from a microwave
dish at terahertz frequencies.
He doesn't realise that at those frequencies the electromagnetic wave
is propagated as infrared light.

Caught red handed with his pants down in a girls school.  Grin

At those frequencies and beyond you are dealing with light and need to use optics, hence optic fibers Wink

Hi Lisa,

How's things in Sydney land?

- Bobby

Hey Bobby et al .. just dropped by to see how you all are Smiley

I see you're still arguing about the same matters you argued about last year .. and the year before that even lol.

Ah well .. tis good to see you're all alive and well in any event.

As regards the weather .. well I'm looking outside my home office window right now and it's raining ... not too hard .. actually it's quite pleasant looking over the bay. Wish I could paint the scene .. but alas my writing and drawing skills are no good atm.

Hope you're all doing ok.

Kind regards

Lisa

Thanks Lisa - try taking a photo & post it.
Yes we still argue about the same things although I think
the NBN is a new topic.

Longweekend -
I think Nail & I are forgiving people.
If you publish an apology along these lines we may forgive you. eg

Quote:
I am sorry Bobby & Nail for pretending that I had
a science degree for the last 3 years.
I was just intimidated by you & tried to keep up
with the big boys.

I hope you two wannabes are enjoying your mutual admiration society. in the meantime, the reast of us are mocking the laborites and you two for your STELLAR lack of scientific knowledge.

you seem to think fibre is the ULTIMATE technology. have you heard nothing of information packets carried by sub-atomic particles/waves or quantum behaviour that might even lead to literally instantaneous data transfer? you might even wonder about transmission FASTER than light but you wil lprobably not be able to google much on it and understand even less.

Rubbish - terahertz is in the light part of the spectrum.
There are no microwave links at that frequency working for the internet. 1 to 20 MHz would be typical.
see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extremely_high_frequency

Quote:
Extremely high frequency is the highest radio frequency band. EHF runs the range of frequencies from 30 to 300 gigahertz, above which electromagnetic radiation is considered to be low (or far) infrared light, also referred to as terahertz radiation.

Longweekend -
there is no way that you have a degree in science.

I presume you meant GHz there. You're correct in that so-called TeraHertz radiation is close to the far Infrared between 300GHz and 3THz. It's actually the boundary between IR and Microwaves.

Far IR goes down to a wavelength of 100microns. Microwave starts at 1mm. Terahertz radiation lies between the two, at least according to the ISO 20473 classification.

I used to work with Far IR and Raman spectroscopy when I was at University.  It's typically used for studies of large molecules.

So you do admit that you are wrong ?

I admitted I was wrong the other day about Commonwealth number plates so why can't you admit that you are wrong ?

Sorry -  1  to 20  GHz - that's a typical microwave link.
The military has higher than that but we are talking about
microwave links as opposed to optic fiber links.

Yep. Anyway Terahertz radiation is certainly not used for data transmission.

It's still called Far IR by astronomers I think.

I think I'll put off buying a new car because I read something about an anti gravity device in Popular Science.

True.
You see how when I make a mistake I instantly say sorry.
Longweekend will never apologise.
