Coffee Anyone?
Nov 27th, 2010 at 6:25am

I'm surprised that there's been no mention of coffee in this section, especially with the icon by the side.

So what is the best coffee, the tastiest. Not necessarily the cheapiest.

Particularly those coffees that are "home brewed", perculated, plungered, or even from a coffee machine or coffee pot.

Are the flavoured beans better than adding a flavouring essence?

Or is Instant Coffee preferred?

All coffee is good (except the old, stewed carp they

used to sell at McDonalds), but some is better than others.

As long as it's fresh, and has MILK and SUGAR, it'll do me.

Can't STAND black coffee, or coffee without sugar.

And can always use some chicory essence for the next time, that's if you get a brew that has a bitter after taste.

I usually drink black espresso, Crivelli is  probably the nicest one in coffee shops..

Don't mind the original style of coffee either (Turkish/Arabic way where it's cooked on the stove/fire in a pot) with cardamon seed mixed in too. Bun al-Ameed is the best.

I get Colombian blend coffee beans. There is only one way for me - double shot flat white or nothing.

I use an automatic espresso machine. Push the button and it grinds the beans fresh each time and delivers piping hot espresso.

Instant? bah.  A servant in Ghana always used to ask - You want instant coffee or white-man coffee?

Give me white-man coffee any day  Grin

If you're going to spoil good coffee with dairy products, you might as well just stick to milo.

I'd agree - espresso and Turkish/Greek (I've not heard of it referred to as Arabic before?) coffee are what I rate pretty highly.

Disagree about the milk thing though. There's nothing wrong with a properly made flat white (and I mean properly made).

Incidentally, if you like good coffee, give this place a shot (you can order online)

If I don't respond to a post directed toward me, it's probably because I've gone offline, not because I'm rude.&&&&Or maybe I don't like you. In which case, sod off. Ta.

I've heard that in Greece they sell the same coffee that they sell in Turkey, and vice-versa, just that they relabel it. As they feel that no one in Turkey would buy coffee from Greece (and vice versa).

Maybe why both Turkish and Greek coffee are rated similarly.

Ironic because that's where it originally came from (coffee itself and the method of brewing it). Hence the name of the plant itself coffee arabica. The Bedouins were the ones who pioneered the method of cooking it in a pot over a campfire. The Turks borrowed it from them and then the Greeks & Europeans got it from there.

Ditto for the name coffee itself, from Arabic qahwah -> Turkish kahveh -> Italian caffe.

I like teas too. Don't mind a drop of Genmaicha. I also like Wu long style teas. I prefer some Taiwan blends to the traditional Fujian  Wu Long (oo-long).

Last time I visited my relatives in Scotland, I left behind some Mao Jian that I bought in Singapore. I'm a few years older than one of my brothers but much better preserved probably because I work out regularly, don't drink and am meticulous about my health and diet. A month after I left, I heard that he was having regular brews of the tea I had left, and was trying to source some. He didn't contact me direct, but apparently he was convinced he had found the fountain of youth  Grin

My favourite was a Vanilla Hazelnut but guess I wasn't buying enough of it as they stopped making it.
