Baillieu's "Cash for Access" Scandal

February 19, 2011

PREMIER Ted Baillieu has been forced to cancel a $1500-a-head Liberal Party fund-raiser featuring two senior ministers, after his government became embroiled in a cash-for-access controversy.

Despite Planning Minister Matthew Guy - one of the frontbenchers who was to headline the event - publicly defending the fund-raiser yesterday morning, the Premier pulled the plug on the function while the government develops a new code of conduct.

The Liberal function was being sponsored and hosted by Deloitte, the same company that is providing crucial advice to the Baillieu government on whether it should dump the trouble-plagued myki ticketing system.

The fund-raiser was advertised as a briefing on planning and transport, and promoted Mr Guy and Transport Minister Terry Mulder's attendance.

Yesterday, Mr Baillieu denied that his ministers were ''for sale'', saying the government was working on a soon-to-be-announced policy on ministerial and staff conduct, fund-raising, gifts and hospitality.

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/baillieu-forced-to-cancel-1500ahead-fundraiser...

A Victorian government minister has defied the premier by agreeing to be a guest speaker for the Geelong 500 Club, the opposition says.

Public Transport and Roads Minister Terry Mulder is listed as a guest speaker at a canapes and drinks function run by The Geelong 500 Club on March 15.

Membership to the club ranges from $145 to $750 annually.

Last month Premier Ted Baillieu ordered that a fundraiser held by Deloitte - the same company that will advise whether the government should axe the myki ticketing system - be postponed while a ministerial code of conduct was developed.

Opposition scrutiny of government spokesman Martin Pakula said Mr Mulder was defying the premier.

"It was only a few weeks ago that Ted Baillieu said there would be
no more cash-for-access fundraisers
until the ministerial code of conduct had been released," he told reporters in Melbourne on Monday.

"Terry Mulder has effectively said `up yours' to the premier, I'll do what I want ... or
the premier was being less than truthful when he made his commitment"

On your private schools jibe, you have continuosly avioded my question about how much do private schools receive in funding compared to state schools?

Victoria's elite education sector recieves LESS taxpayer funding than their poor public cousins

Public funding of schools should be on a NEED basis - not a VOTE basis

The very fact they would for a MOMENT consider scrapping this almost complete cancer treatment centre. while spending five times that sponsoring rowing teams in private schools, is reprehensible

More lies from buzz, they said they need to find the money for the cancer centre, as the ALP HAD A MASSIVE BLACK HOLE IN FUNDING FOR IT.

And you can drop the colouring in competition and larger font.  No one else finds the need to do it on a continual basis.

$39 MILLION is not a "massive black hole" when you inherit a $100 MILLION plus SURPLUS

Industry wants fast moves from Baillieu

Philip Hopkins and Simon Johanson
November 30, 2010

INDUSTRY groups have called for action from a Baillieu government on infrastructure, stamp duty and planning.

Sir Rod Eddington, chairman of the federal government advisory group
Infrastructure Australia
, said while Melbourne faced challenges with existing infrastructure, newer areas did not have enough.

''Some of Melbourne's problems come from its success. That puts pressure on existing infrastructure, whether it's transport, water or power infrastructure,'' Sir Rod told BusinessDay.

''If you take a 10 to 15-year view, you'd look at all three - transport, power and water.''

The Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a wish-list of projects, ranging from freeways and rail to action in the Port of Melbourne and an extension of the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

"Trust Me - I'm a Doctor"

Jill Stark
March 6, 2011

HE TOLD us the health system was broken. Stressed-out doctors, ambulances backed up outside emergency departments, waiting list blowouts - Victoria's public hospitals were in crisis.

In opposition, David Davis claimed the system was so sick that lives were at risk, routinely describing it as a shambles and a disgrace.

Now, that same system with its $12 billion budget is his responsibility. But this one-time Coalition attack dog appears to have lost his bark.

In an interview with The Sunday Age, the Health Minister failed to answer questions on a range of key election promises, effectively telling Victorians to ''watch this space''.

On promises to publish long-hidden outpatient waiting lists, he said announcements would be made ''in coming weeks'', but would not disclose the extent of the problem revealed by the data.

He said ''preliminary work'' had begun on a thorough hospitals audit but declined to elaborate on when final results would be made public.

And while he said he was committed to preventive healthcare, the minister has yet to announce a single policy on obesity - an issue the Australian Medical Association and VicHealth say is the most pressing public health crisis facing the state.

Ambulance staff have threatened to strike next year if paramedics are not recognised as professionals and paid accordingly.

VICTORIA'S 11,500 police officers are threatening to strike after Premier Ted Baillieu's government broke a key promise on pay.

Let the GAMES begin !

Actually Buzz Ive exposed many of your lies and deception in this thread many a time over.

Much like your lies on the winds farm issue, you know the one that you still couldnt admit you constantly and blantantly lied about in this thread until you were exposed.

You know the issue that you continually perputrated as a lie and it took about 5 pages for you to drop the issue.

This thread is filled with nothing by lies and deception by our resident in meltdown.

And lets not forget the best thing Ted had done is made TAFE affordable to thousands of students across the state.  Something which couldnt be done before this.

Starbucks, by a Billabong

Josh Gordon
March 8, 2011

VICTORIA'S national parks would be opened up to
hotels, restaurants and tourist facilities
under a plan to boost visitor arrivals from China and India.

A draft report by the Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission also recommends Parks Victoria be overhauled to become what it calls a ''sophisticated landlord''.

Victorian National Parks Association executive director Matt Ruchel said the report was simplistic and failed to recognise that Victoria had the highest proportion of private land ownership in Australia.

''The core reason for national parks and the reason why people like them is it is about the protection of natural values - not whether you can get a latte there,''
Mr Ruchel said.

''There is a danger of killing the goose that lays the golden egg.''

The report follows anger over the state government's decision to allow a trial of alpine cattle grazing.
