Why WOULDN'T they ?

They don't have to DO anything
(the Baillieu Government's field of expertise)

It costs them nothing

It is a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT initiative, managed by (I would ASSUME) Centrelink

So would you rather the disabled in another state be trialled while the Victorians miss out?

Are you really that sad?

Its called leadership from the Victorian State government.

NO
Of COURSE not
But it's no achievement - or "leadership"
It's a case of jumpling in first, and saying ....

There is NO state government involvement
Other than allowing Victoria to be the testing ground

It is a FEDERAL initiative and FEDERALLY funded

Just SIGN IT, Ted .....

VICTORIA'S flood-affected communities are being denied $500 million in federal flood levy funding, with the state government accusing Canberra of trying to welsh on its promise to pay the money.

Months after the flood levy was announced by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, The Age can reveal that none of the money has been delivered to the state's 94 flood-affected communities.

''It appears that the Commonwealth are trying to delay and avoid ever delivering the promised funds,'' a spokesman for Premier Ted Baillieu said last night.

While Queensland has received $2 billion, the money earmarked for Victoria has become bogged by a dispute between the state and federal governments.

Victoria is refusing to sign up to the so-called National Partnership Agreement as demanded by Canberra.

But other sources have suggested the state government has been deliberately stalling on receiving the cash until 2011-12 to make its first budget as sound as possible - a claim vigorously denied by Treasurer Kim Wells's office

The Baillieu Government
REFUSES
to sign the SAME contract for Federal Relief Funding that Queensland did

It is to ensure the money goes to where it is intended

Why won't he sign ?
What's he got planned for it
?

Its tied around inspections being done on every single property, without funding to pay for the inspectors to do it.

Dunno mate, you tell me, you seem to think you know it all.

Queensland had no issues - with the SAME contract
And they are FEDERAL inspectors - who one would expect to be FEDERALLY funded

Is it TOO much to ask that there is
"value for money"
We don't want incidents like occurred in the NSW leg of the BER

It's FEDERAL money
They are just excersizing their  right (and obligation to the taxpayer) to
"checks and balances"

The Kennett government pursued strong economic growth, sound budgets and investment in infrastructure. My government and, subsequently, the Brumby government did the same and, in addition, invested our surpluses in service delivery.

On coming to power in 1999, the Bracks Government adopted a number of incomplete Kennett government projects - such as Federation Square, the County Court, Melbourne Museum and the CityLink toll - without question
and completed each without complaint
- there may be a lesson here for our new state government.

We also need to keep the cost of doing business in Victoria as competitive as possible.
The government should ditch home stamp-duty cuts and instead use the money to further cut WorkCover premiums and payroll tax rates, since these cuts are more likely to generate jobs.
The government should also support industries that are part of Victoria's future, and get on with infrastructure projects.

Vic business lobby urges tax relief

02 May 2011 | 02:16:34 PM | Source: AAP

The Victorian government should set a timetable for
payroll tax reform
and debt reduction, and keep a lid on public sector wages, the business lobby says.

.The opposition has called on Premier Ted Baillieu to keep the trust Victorians placed in his government and deliver on every commitment made before last November's election when he delivers his first budget on Tuesday.

Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief economist Steven Wojtkiw has been granted meetings with representatives from Treasurer Kim Wells' office but not with the man himself.

Mr Wojtkiw urged the government to ease cost pressures on business and lay out its strategy to reduce debt and
invest in infrastructure.

"If there are no substantive measures in terms of
tax relief for business in this budget
we would certainly expect that coming budgets will provide that relief," Mr Wojtkiw told reporters on budget eve.

"But this budget can and should provide a timetable for
taxation reform
and further
reduction in business red tape.

"It is important we do have a timetable for
payroll tax relief
recognising that other states, and for that matter other countries, are continually looking at ways that they can make their business tax agenda much more competitive."

Govt prepares for 'line in the sand' budget

By state political reporter Alison Savage
Updated 30 minutes ago

The Victorian Government will face its first major test when it hands down its first budget today.

The Government has foreshadowed a tough budget, accusing Labor of leaving the state's finances in disarray.

It also says the expected drop in GST revenue from the Commonwealth will eat away at the budget's bottom line.

But the Premier, Ted Baillieu, says the Government has been working to make sure all of its election commitments are met.

RMIT University Professor David Hayward says there is no reason why the Government can not deliver on its promises.

"I think the big question mark is why is it the Government has been talking about black holes and financial crisis because
the evidence they've presented so far is pretty shaky
quite frankly," he said,

Quote:
•HALF-TRUTH: "Julia Gillard and Federal Labor are short-changing Victoria by $2.5 billion in GST revenue because of a flawed system." - Ted Baillieu, March 31, 2011.
•THE OTHER HALF: The Commonwealth Grants Commission's 2011 Update states: "When combined with the growth in GST available, its (Victoria's) assessed GST will rise by $280 million or 2.6 per cent" in 2011-12.

Here, boys and girls, is an unfortunate example of being unable to accept a result.

Buzz, the Victorian people rightly kicked out a poor Government who had let them down.

Now be a good lad and move on, this thread is just embarrassing for you now.
