Just to indulge the off topic a bit further

"There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" came unequivocally and without qualification from Gillard before the election.
Her words, not ours.

And there will be a carbon tax within three years because the Greens need to push it through while they have the control.

Her words again - "There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" came unequivocally and without qualification from Gillard before the election.

Is she, or is she not the leader of the government. If the ALP wins the next election will she still be the leader?

News ltd werent liars, they are guilty of lazy journalism. The only reason I picked up on it was because I watched that first media conference. None of the them bothered to take the direct quote.

I apoligise for calling you a liar on this issue, since you were misinformed.

The one I gave you was from Sky News, and was a direct quote.

Oh, and about two doesnt promise two. About two to me would mean two at most, maybe more, maybe less but at least one.

It doesnt clearly state there will be two.

Brumby promises to boost police numbers April 28, 2010

The Victorian government has promised to boost police numbers by almost 2000 officers during the next five years.

Premier John Brumby today promised an extra 1966 police, trumping the opposition's election pledge of 1600.

The $561 million boost will fund the recruitment of 1700 new frontline police.

Advertisement: Story continues below The government will also recruit 200 white collar workers to replace trained police currently performing office duties who will be redeployed.

"This is a historic investment in police numbers," Mr Brumby told reporters today.

"This is designed to keep our streets safe, this is designed to drive down crime."

An additional 66 police will be redeployed from telephone answering dispatch services to frontline roles.

The extra police boost is a pre-election budget announcement.

Mr Brumby said 604 of the new police would be delivered in the first year of the five-year program.

The opposition - which has also pledged to recruit an extra 100 transit police and 940 protective service officers to staff train stations at night - said the government was in ‘‘panic mode’’.

‘‘The government has today, on new police numbers, matched our commitment,’’ Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu said.

‘‘And we, in the process, feel vindicated that the leadership we’ve been offering has now been acknowledged by the government.

‘‘What we’ve seen today from this government is that they’re more about playing catch up than actually identifying the needs and problems of Victorians and putting in place strategies to deal with it.’’

As a working class kid myself - really Labor should be representing me and my views.
They should be helping those of us in my demographic.

They don't, Labor have ALWAYS ended up costing me money and the Liberals - believe it or not - have always been the ones who help us.

And I am from the demographic that should be Labor voting too!

It wasnt until the news ltd guys got the other issue so wrong that now I dont bother to take too much of their paraphrasing into consideration, and prefer direct quotes from people.

Just because a journalist says its so doesnt make it.

Hi Jack,
The rules in Aus are slightly different for IDP's,
They are not a requirement when visiting here,you can drive on your own license for a 3 month period (in most states) if you are from an exempt country and/or if your license is in english and/or you have a cetified translation of your license.
simple so far but here is where it gets tricky.
Not all car hire companies will rent a vehicle if you do not have an IDP. Not all insurance companies will insure you if you do not have an IDP
I drive in quite a few countries I do not need an IDP in most, but again there is a requirement by the car rental companies AND Insurance companies to hold a IDP. So it makes life so much easier if you have an IDP.

I have a vehicle overseas I am the registered owner and as I am not a full time resident of that country I am required to hold an IDP for my car insurance to be current.

And your'e right Hicks won't come back because he knows he is wrong. Grin
