Bringing Tiger Woods to Melbourne was awesome.

He is by far one of the best players, if not the best, to ever play the game.

Australia has no majors. Therefore unless he is brought to Australia in events like Brumby used to bring him there, then he won't come unless on vacation.

I am lucky enough to live where he plays. If I were still permanently in Australia, I wouldn't be lucky enough to see him play.

Many thousands of people were grateful for that opportunity.

It was an excellent idea, both economically sound and good for the sports people of the country.

The Australian Masters would have made money without Tiger Woods participation.

To be honest, I was there the year before when he came and it was a bit annoying to have loads of people there who clearly knew sweet fa about golf hogging the tee shot positions.

It was though a decision Brumby made which I thought was excellent.

And the NEXT back-flip is ...

THE Baillieu government has conceded its controversial wind farm policy is powerless to control the biggest expansion of wind energy in Victoria's history, with 1322 new turbines planned across 28 approved developments.

Before the Brumby government lost office, embattled planning minister Justin Madden approved about $5 billion of wind energy projects. If all farms go ahead, Victoria will have eight times its current wind generation capacity, from 427 megawatts to 3619 megawatts, equivalent to two Latrobe Valley brown-coal power stations.

Under the Coalition's wind farm election policy, welcomed by anti-wind farm campaigners, residents can veto a development if turbines are less than two kilometres from their home. Planning authority was also given back to local councils.

When the policy was released in June, the wind industry said it would kill off investment.

But in a concession likely to disappoint local anti-wind farm groups, new Planning Minister Matthew Guy told The Sunday Age that although several of the approved farms were contentious, the Coalition would not retrospectively apply its policies to the 28 wind farms already holding planning approvals. Such a move, he said, would create serious risks for business in Victoria.

A COWARD who bashed a 91-year-old grandfather in his own home could face years in jail under new anti-violence laws.
Premier Ted Baillieu last night told the Herald Sun he was shocked by the bashing of the Melbourne man, adding that it highlighted the need for harsher sentences for thugs.

Mr Baillieu made law and order one of the planks of his successful election campaign. He wants to recall Parliament before Christmas in a bid to push ahead with new laws that would impose a minimum four-year jail term on anyone found guilty of such gross acts of violence.

People deserve the right to know the courts will support them if they are subjected to an act of unprovoked violence.

Im tired of Judges letting crims go after the police have worked so hard to catch them.

You cant apply legislation retrospectivley, you know that.  The compensation claims would run into the hundred of millions if that happens.

Tell where they have broken their promise again?

You are pretty desperate Buzz.

He CAN, but he WON'T ....

Because he's come to realise, on examining the figures, that the renewable energy sector is a potential "gold-mine" for Victoria

I await the day he hands over the decision making process to local councils
A power they don't want

THE state opposition is facing a barrage of criticism over a new wind-farm policy that industry and councils say will shut down a vital part of the Victorian renewable energy sector.

Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu announced yesterday that under a Coalition government local councils would be given full control over the wind farm approval process.

Advertisement: Story continues below Currently decisions about big wind farms are made by the state government.

The Coalition policy also includes:

■ A ban on wind farms in state and national parks, tourist areas and growth corridors, including Wilsons Promontory, the Dandenong Ranges and the Great Ocean Road.

■ Compensation for landowners whose properties are within one kilometre of existing wind farms.

■ No new wind turbines to be built within two kilometres of homes.

Mr Baillieu rejected suggestions his policy would kill the industry. ''We're supportive of renewable energy. We're not seeking to prevent applications, we're seeking to ensure that those who have interests have a say,'' he said.

But the Municipal Association of Victoria said councils did not always want to control wind-farm planning decisions. President Bill McArthur said councils often lacked the expertise to make informed decisions.

Planning Minister Justin Madden said the Coalition policy was ''bizarre''.

So you dont think Councils should have the right to decide if they want these in their own back yard or not?

Bull.  Councillors love power and will relish it.

No, they should NOT in such matters

What sort of condition would Victoria's energy supply be in had local councils had the right to block construction of coal-fired power plants - which they would DO, given that right of veto ?

You would not have one power plant in Victoria

I expect we will see this policy "modified" after "consultation" with councils

A little side-note on wind farms - and the TOTAL lack of journalistic integraty by Rupert's "The Australian"

"It’s right at our front door" . . . Jan Perry, president of Landscape Guardians anti-wind farm group, at Leonards Hill, northeast of Melbourne, yesterday. Picture: Stuart McEvoy Source: The Australian

See photo

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/baillieu-policy-bodes-ill-for-victor...

Jan Perry heads the local branch of the "brain balance" people - and lives approximately 1km from the yet to be constructed TWO turbines by Hepburn Wind at Sailors Falls (on the opposite side of the Ballan-Daylesfored Road)

Where they took her for this photo shoot at her "home" is ANYONES guess
The photo shows EIGHT turbines in the background

Sailors Falls and Leonard's Hill currently have NONE
