PENSIONERS and other concession card holders would save up to $100 on their electricity costs under a Coalition Government.
Opposition leader Ted Baillieu has pledged $350 million to provide a 17.5 per cent reduction on electricity bills.

The plan would see the reduction run year round, as opposed to the Government's plan to provide a rebate for part of the year.

Mr Baillieu said the costs of living had skyrocketed under Premier John Brumby's watch.

"Victorians, especially those on fixed incomes, are struggling with day-to-day living costs that are increasing at an alarming rate," Mr Baillieu said.

Mr Baiilieu said an extension to the current winter electricity concessions would provide relief for older Victorians and Victorians with health care concession cards.

TRUEnergy, which lifted tariffs in May this year, is still reviewing its rates.

The Herald Sun yesterday revealed the Baillieu Government was considering bringing forward to January 1 promised year-round electricity bill discounts for more than 700,000 concession card holding homes. Mr Baillieu is considering doubling the annual discount for card holders with an annual power bill of $1000 to almost $170.

Labor pledges 941 new hospital beds

Victorian Labor is continuing its campaign of trump politics, promising if re-elected.

Premier John Brumby made the promise at Frankston Hospital today, outdoing the Coalition's pledge last week of 800 new beds.

Labor's extra beds include 327 out of a new $746 million package for capital works projects at Victorian hospitals.

Some 444 beds have been locked in under the federal health agreement, while the government has revealed an extra 170 would flow from last week's $1.5 billion hospitals announcement.

Mr Brumby said Labor would undertake the biggest hospital building project in the state's history.

"It's about upgrading hospitals, it means more jobs in construction, it means more patients being treated and of course it means more new hospital beds," he told reporters.
