Baillieu's First Goal! And it's a ripper
Dec 1st, 2010 at 12:01pm

Ted has given Victorians back the Christmas spirit by removing any bans on celebrating Christmas.
"DON'T let political correctness ruin Christmas, Ted Baillieu has warned schools and other community groups.

The Premier said Victorians should embrace the festive season.

He said schools should not back down from running Christmas pageants, concerts and nativity scenes for fear of offending minority groups.

"A Baillieu government expects school principals to take a reasonable and commonsense approach so all Victorian children have the opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasures of Christmas," he said.

The warning comes after some schools and community groups imposed Christmas bans in recent years.

Islamic Council of Victoria vice-president Sherene Hassan backed Mr Baillieu.

"I don't believe that multiculturalism is about banning Santa or banning Christmas carols," she said."

how others celebrate their festive times is their business and no one tries to stop them doing it.. so why do we have to stop doing what we have done for centuries.

I agree, that is a terrific way to start his new Premiership, by signalling to all that he is in favour of a no BS, common sense approach, to over heightened, politically correct nonsense.

I just hope he does not go too far in supporting any particular religious groups agenda, be it Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jew, or any other.
Some of the more wacky, far right extremists, have a very strong Christian agenda that they would wish to foist upon him, and the real test will be to see if he can resist that, in the same way we hope he will resist the attempts from Muslim migrants to have special privileges granted to their communities.

Ten points, Teddy !

Removing a "ban" that never existed

Don't ban Christmas, schools told
Tanya Giles and Geraldine Mitchell
21 November 2005

EVERY Victorian school and kindergarten has been officially told: don't ban Christmas celebrations.

Premier Steve Bracks yesterday gave his official encouragement for nativity scenes, carols and other Christian traditions.

Jingle Bells can ring in classrooms around the state again after several schools banned nativity scenes and carol singing last year for fear of offending non-Christian children.

Mr Bracks told the Herald Sun the Government would send a message to every primary and secondary school reminding them not to ban Christmas.

"All schools and kindergartens should be able to have nativity plays and Christian celebrations," Mr Bracks said.

"Those who don't wish to participate don't have to, and those who wish to celebrate in their own way can do so.

"But even those from other faiths, of course, accept Christian celebrations and the Government is keen to ensure there are no bans on any of these sorts of activities."

Mr Bracks said he wanted to encourage tolerance of all faiths.

His intervention comes after several schools last year refused to stage Christmas celebrations.

Some kindergartens and childcare centres also banned nativity scenes in favour of end-of-year parties with no mention of Christmas.

Shut off the Sugarloaf Pipeline - which was currently shut off

And bringing back the security watch to public transport - which was abolished by the Kennett Liberal Government during THEIR term

My company doesn't celebrate christmas in any of our offices, the ones in Australia included.

We have a holiday season and an 'end of year' set of parties.

We also do things for such the like as Thanksgiving etc but we are mindful not to push an American culture onto the overseas offices.

I celebrate christmas but its not a big deal of companies don't.
I have always enjoyed the multi-national large corps and few of those celebrate it now.

"Shut off the Sugarloaf Pipeline - which was currently shut off"

If it's anything like the plan for NSW...then shutting it down is a GREAT idea

And bringing back the security watch to public transport - which was abolished by the Kennett Liberal Government during THEIR term

And given how much violence and crime takes place on trains, trams, buses and transport stations/interchanges.....how is this a 'bad' thing???

Sugarloaf Pipeline

The development of Victoria’s Water Grid will help Victoria to better manage supply risks. The Sugarloaf Pipeline is an important new addition to this grid and connects Melbourne’s water supply system with the Goulburn River system. It was completed in February 2010.

In 2010, the pipeline will deliver 75 billion litres of water to Melbourne, from several sources.

From 2011 on, the pipeline will deliver Melbourne its share of savings achieved under Stage 1 of the Northern Victoria Irrigation Renewal Project (NVIRP). Once Stage 1 is completed at the end of 2012, it is expected to save an average of 225 billion litres of water a year.

As with all water allocations in Northern Victoria, the actual amount saved each year will vary, depending partly on rainfall and inflow conditions. Savings generated in a year also depend on how much water is delivered and what modernisation works have been completed.

Each year the amount will be split three ways between Melbourne, irrigators and the environment. Melbourne's allocation will be capped at 75 billion litres per year while in 'wet' years, irrigators and the environment could receive greater allocations.

In a nutshell, the pipeline ONLY sends to Melbourne a percentage of any "bonus water" saved by the overall project

It takes NOTHING from the farming region - and delivers it MORE

AND you believe a state Government???

HOW can it possible 'deliver more'???...farmers take their allocation from the river system.....THEN the government decides to pipe water from the river system TO melbourne and you think this idea won't reduce the allocation to farmers/irrigators???

Hmmm and Santa will turn up in 24 days, on a sleigh draw by 12 reindeer, and leave presents for ALL the good boys and girls....
