How long had Abbott been planning his leadership challenge ... pre Brendan Nelson?

If he hadn't been, then is he a opportunity cuckoo ... that puts himself before the party?

Oh c'mon Android, true 'loyalty' and altruism rarely prevail in politics...

In practice, politicians are egotists who think they have a monopoly on the ultimate ideology - and conveniently-engage in fluid self-serving allegiances within their loosely-defined political group as a means to achieve their own ends...

Why hold any Australian female pollie to different moral standards to your beloved former British female PM!?

Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!

mantra - Quote:
Unfortunately due to the sexism shown in politics - Rudd was the one pushed forward to do battle with Howard. He always appeared to be only a stop gap with Gillard waiting in the wings.

It was a given that she would end up as PM, so it's no surprise that this coup was planned a year earlier.

You wouldn't expect less. Rudd was only popular for a short time until his true nature shone through, but I don't think anyone had any illusions about Gillard. She has always been the same - likeable or not.

i agree.

All politicians have personal agendas ... denying this reinforces the climate of lying withing old politics.

Abbott has a personal  agenda
Gillard has a personal agenda.

and good on both of them. Lets hope these personal agenda's are for the best intention of Australia rather than just personal power.

And aussiefree2ride, we are the same poster, so why are we arguing outside our own head.

No wonder Julia Gillard wanted to label Julain Assange as a criminal.
Trying to discredit Mr Assange before we had the opportunity to find out for ourselves.
Julia Gillard knew all along that the truth of her conspiracy would come out.

Now we are seeing the real Julia, but just how much is being revealed.

not as sticky as it is for you Mel/miss/tickfen/maqqa to name but a few. I probably need to add aussiefree2ride to your list, he's the only one stupid enough to be accusing me of having multi nicks, besides you and all of yours that is mel, so he must be you too.

So (supposedly)intelligent people who contribute to political message boards are shocked & left feeling violated because a politician has leadership aspirations & plans that stretch over many months if not years to achieve this goal.
Just so you all don't commit mass suicide here's a heads up, even now, yes as we speak/type there are individuals within Liberal,Labor,National,Greens that are planing their next move to increase their chances of gaining the leadership of their party.

Some things may not be obvious, it might be who to invite for Xmas drinks, a chance mobile photo of another pollie laughing with the wrong person that could be used out of context(very machiavellian).

Oh & for the record Tony is not God he will be challenged as leader as soon as the majority of the party thinks their better off with Hockey or Turnbull & BOTH of these men are already putting plans in place for this.

Nice to see you back Macca

What this does prove is Gillard has issues with the truth.

How many times did she say there was no one else behind it, that she did it because the Government had lost its way and it was only a recent decision.

If she wanted the job, fine, but dont bullshit us in the mean time with your reasons and your actions.

We all knew Costello wanted the job and didnt go for it.

No one saw what Gillard did, and she was deceptive from the start right through and then past the event.

That speaks far louder than anything else.

At least Abbott let it be known he wanted the job, then challanged for it, as did Turnbull before him.
