Ken Henry is the Treasury secretary not an elected politician.
He can retire anytime he wants just like the rest of us.

He's probably slightly pissed off that he was asked to pull together an all-encompassing tax review and provide a set of recommendations.

Only then to see the then Government hold onto it for an inordinate amount of time, release bits of it through leaks (FBT excess etc) and then only attempt to implement 5% of what he said.

I thought the Government's handling of his Tax review was poor in the extreme.

In fact I'm going to put it in writing this government is useless, Gillards way out of her depth, frankly their isn't a competent one among them.
Now my liberal friends don't get excited because frankly the opposition is no better.
Turnbull is the only one I'd give a go & expect something better by the end of his term, the rest would just give us more of the same.

I was the one who said it all along, why have a review and then insult the guy by only adopting like 5 of the 45 recommendations.

As a whole, the review probably made a lot of sense, but by only picking out a couple it has butched it, and took a little unknown guy and threw him into the spotlight, not a fair thing to do to a public servant.

I dont think Ken will have too many problems getting another job.

Brumby's a long bow there Cods.
He lost the election nearly all that do then throw in the towel from both sides.
As for NSW ALP yes there must be something we can do to punish these useless bastards for running before we get the chance to vote them out.
Maybe it should be no full elected term served no tax payer funded pension.
Medical/Family reasons excepted.

lol smithy you have taken the rose tinted spectacles off at long last, havent we been trying to tell you that for yonks.. never mind better late than never..

as for Malcolm.. dont forget he did make a blue by siding with rudds ETS... that has gone completely nowhere so he was wrong.and he paid a heavy price. and when this carbon tax comes in gillard will pay an even heavier price.

there are a lot of people out there suffering due to complete and utter mismanagement of this country..not just on a Fed level either.. they are out of control..

what were we reading yesterday about the Lord Mayor of Melb. spending like hes only got 24 hours left to live.. on rubbish..

another mob of councellors have run up huge bar bills... how dare they?

we have the NSW mob who arent in enough poo already, spending millions on changing the name of the NSW Firebrigade..they deserve to be called Fire and Rescue..what tosh. give the buggers the money I say and keep the stationary..

I think all commonsense has left this country I really do!

Ken Henry is highly respected and sought after internationally so its no surprise that he is quitting after many years contributing to the public service for more lucrative and satisfying work elsewhere.
Its what professional people do so I would'nt read to much into it.
We can thank people like Ken Henry for our economic prosperity due to good public financial policies.
I am a little concerned that although the coalition knows he is responsible for a large part of their economic policies and success when they were in govt they have chosen to stab him in the back at every chance since they lost power.
I wonder if the Coalition are going to appoint their boy Godwin Gretch to the top job in treasury when they get back in  Grin

with this latest backdown, mistake, ballsup it's easy to see why Ken is leaving the sinking ship.

Quote:
The federal government has been told by its own consultation group that all current and future state and territory royalties should be credited against its planned minerals resource rent tax.
The recommendation, one of 94 proposed by the policy transition group, contradicts the government’s stance to limit credits to only royalties existing at May 2, 2010.

The group said a full credit for royalties would provide certainty about the overall tax impost on the coal and iron ore industries.

Advertisement: Story continues below ‘‘Equally, the MRRT should not be used as a mechanism to enable states and territories to increase inefficient royalties on MRRT taxable commodities,’’ the group said in a report to government today.

‘‘The PTG also recommends the Australian, state and territory governments put in place arrangements to ensure that state and territory governments do not have an incentive to increase royalties on coal and iron ore.’’

Treasurer Wayne Swan welcomed the report, saying the government would now consider the recommendations and respond in early 2011.

‘‘The report will also inform the preparation of exposure draft legislation by mid-2011, which will be subject to further consultation,’’ he said in a statement............

they've BEEN TOLD, but stall want yet another consultation.
moronic leftys, if it had been done proper the 1st, 2nd or 14th time, it would not need be done again !!!!!!!!
