All secret of course.
The last Pope said something about sorry for the inquistion but
didn't mention returning the stolen property - land, houses , castles , goods etc.

He just says sorry but we'll keep the loot.
Nothing but a bunch of thieves - so much for

thou shalt not steal!

he reluctantly says sorry but still expects suckers to keep donating to them Sad

Bit of history for you Nail -
the Nazis stole property too that was never given back.
The Vichy Govt. in France gave Nazis real titles to land
which was owned by Jews.
The Jews were gassed & a Nazi family would move in to their new home
with a legal title.
That property is still unrecovered today.

Maybe theft is the way of the world?
I suppose we live on land stolen from the Abbos?

All this inqusition stuff is lovely, however it proves nothing in the case, and both nail and bobby have used it as an opportunity to bash the Church.

Will you be taking the same line on anyone of German descent for their actions with the Nazis, or against the British for theirs to our own Aboriginal people as just a couple of more recent examples of massive human rights abuses.

However it is still all irrelevant and doesnt change the facts.

The only facts we have is a woman left her house to a church in Hawthorn, a church that in Australia has never been nor its priests been investigated or charged for any illegal acts.

Verge - you're quite right.
The church will win this case & all of the evidence about
the inquisition would be inadmissible in court.

I was only annoyed by Longweekend's denial of the inquisition
which to me is worse than a denial of the holocaust.

On the other hand it still annoys me that this Catholic Church wants everyone
to sweep their history under the carpet.
I don't think people would be so ready to hand over property & money
if they really knew the truth about what happened.

Also - people from all churches were doing things like that in those times.
They were more barbaric than the romans who crucified Christ.
So much for their message of love - sitting on a pointed pyramid
suspended by ropes -
how could they even think of doing something like that?

How come the Nazi's are treated with contempt but the catholic church is not, so much so that many like Verge are willing to defend them even when it comes to taking away a families assets just like they used to do in the Inquisition times !! I don't get it, do you ??

I am not defending them nail, I am defending the rights of people to follow them if they choose, and to donate to them if they choose.

I will defend the dozen or so Churches in my local area because all I have seen from them is good acts.  Im not going to critise them when all I see is charitable acts and acts of good will.  These Churches are a range of different religions by the way.  Until they do something wrong, I personally will not hold someone to account for what happened thousands of kms away.  You cant condemn all school teachers because one was a kiddy fiddler.  I treat everyone as I come across them and try my hardest not to pre-judge and I do that with people from all walks of life.  Im not PC about it though, and have no worries making jokes or nicknames that would make the PC police have a fit.

As far as Im concerned the Vatican is just like every other super power and thats corrupt.  But Im not going to hold it against the local pastor who IS doing good work.  Doesnt mean Im going to race down there and give him any money but if others choose to then good luck to them.

To get back to the thread title...

Do you have any actual proof that the woman WAS conned (and leaving the house to a church isn't actual proof).....Or that the church asked her to leave it to them, or even knew (before the will was read) that she had left the house to the church????

Good on you Verge - that's the way I think.
Most people in the Church do good work for society these days.
Could the horror of the Inquisition return?
It sort of has in Iran - religious zealots execute about 16 people per week.
(that includes stoning to death)
It's a wonder that world still exists.
This is what it used to be like:

yes but there are to many other parasites with their snouts in the trough hoarding money that should otherwise be going directly to the needy. Why should anyone be donating to support this type of inefficient organization ??

Stryder,
Leave my mate Nails alone you bully.
This thread is not about God you fool.
Watch SBS tonight to see what the Catholic Nazis did -

Quote:
As it Happened
8:30pm - 9:30pm

Apocalypse: the Second World War - Inferno
Classified: M Genre: Documentary
Bringing together rare and forgotten footage, this series provides a groundbreaking portrait of WWII. This episode looks at the dramatic story of the D-day landings and of the liberation of Paris. In the east, the Soviets liberate Auschwitz and fight their way to the heart of Berlin.   Germany finally surrenders, but Japan fights on until the atom bombs are dropped.
