Why me, whatsforme?

What do I do that so drives you to post garbage like this, without connection to the thread?

It's a genuine surprise if something I post is not followed by some childish comment from you.

So what's the issue? What is your problem?

Dice the idea of a "Flood Levy",  and create a "Disaster Fund"  especially in view of the fact that now parts of Qld. are facing the disaster of a Cat. 5 Cyclone.    As summer progresses there is the liklihood of very bad bushfires too.

Cor I sound like a portent of doom !  but the facts are that Australia does have these disastrous events on a fairly regular basis, so a Disaster Fund makes more sense.

judas puts her nbn above flood victims.
showing her obsessive self interested priorities.

Quote:
National Broadband Network has become the federal government's first legislative priority for the sitting year, ahead of its new flood levy laws.

Manager of government business Anthony Albanese yesterday said the government hoped, but could not guarantee, the levy bills would be ready in time for next week's sittings.

Julia Gillard last week promised the legislation for the $1.8 billion flood levy would be tabled in the first sitting week, with the tax to take effect from July 1.But with drafting work ongoing, "we'll be confirming that once the bills have been finalised", Mr Albanese said.

Federal parliament will instead mark the devastation of the floods by dedicating the first day of sittings, on Tuesday, to motions of condolence to victims of the disaster. "That will be a day in which there will be one item of business and one item only," Mr Albanese said.

But the bipartisanship will be fleeting, ending before the first of nine government bills is expected to go before the lower house on Wednesday.

The government's legislative list is headed by a bill supporting its flagship infrastructure project, the NBN, which the opposition wants scrapped to help pay for post-flood reconstruction.

The NBN bill on access arrangements, which ensures NBN Co provides only wholesale services and stops other telcos from cherry-picking lucrative parts of the network, is part of a wider package of reforms critical to the continued rollout of the controversial fibre-optic network.

Manager of opposition business Christopher Pyne said the government should have put the flood levy on the top of its legislative agenda to honour the Prime Minister's pledge last week.

"Julia Gillard said that nothing would stop her from introducing it and doing it post haste, but yet it seems to be a second priority to the NBN," he said.

"Yet again the government is sending mixed messages about what its priorities are."
Mr Albanese acknowledged the debate on the NBN legislation, tabled in the last days of last year's sittings, was likely to be a long one.

"But, clearly, the National Broadband Network is a priority for the government and a priority for the nation," he said.

Federal parliament will also hear next week the government's annual update of efforts to "close the gap" between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians as well as a ministerial statement on the anniversary of the Victorian bushfires.

While Tony Windsor's idea of a

scheme to insure us as a nation against the disasters that seem to regularly befall us is an excellent idea that deserves serious discussion,
it's a bit too late for the people of Queensland and Victoria

Essential infrastructure needs to be rebuilt as quickly as possible.

The economic health of Australia is reliant on Queensland's agricultural and resources powerhouses.

Nothing can be more important at the moment than rebuilding Queensland and Victoria.

But the Government also has an obligation to honour its election promise to return the budget to surplus.

For Abbott to reject a levy for the victims of the floods, despite having gone along with six of his own when in government, seems to me to be almost incredibly churlish.

EVERYONE ?

I'd say a small, token amount by those on medium incomes (say, 99 cents a week) to a little more for those in high income groups

(which is what we HAVE)

Perhaps basing the levy on ASSETTS would suit you better ?
I'd probably be included
As it IS, I've MINIMISED my tax liability - mostly through the local "barter" market

Incidently, how much will YOU be paying ?

I am not in Australia, slight difference.

If there were a levy for a disaster in my current country I would be paying.

How about you?

Nothing again?

I don't know Buzz's financial arrangements, but it seems odd to criticize someone who has set themselves up so that they don't have to work anymore.

Isn't that one of the definitions of success?

I wouldn't mind if you didn't demand others pay more.

You criticised me for paying less tax than you believed I should, yet I paid more than you?

You demand others pay a levy - that you yourself would not be paying?

You demand things like FBT changes etc when you yourself pay little into the country.

It's not what you do, but rather how you then demand of others.

You were in no position whatsoever to criticise me, when you did little yourself.
If you paid in $200k per year in tax then fair enough, I'd listen.

How about local employment?
I had a gardener come around, window cleaners, guys to wash the two cars etc - paying into Victoria and the local economy.
You - allegedly a great citizen - didn't do any of those things.

It's hypocrisy and dare I say it, champagne socialism at its worst.

You truly are a VERY odd person, hicks.

Everything you do is justifiable, in your own view.

Everything everyone else does is wrong.
