Rudd's Ambitions Not Dead In Queensland

Rudd still tops in his home state - poll

MORE Queenslanders still want Kevin Rudd to lead the nation rather than Julia Gillard, according to a new poll.

Mr Rudd gained the support of 44 per cent of respondents to a Galaxy poll published in Saturday's Courier Mail, compared with 33 per cent for Prime Minister Gillard.

Another Queenslander, Treasurer Wayne Swan, won 15 per cent support as preferred Labor leader but only 8 per cent backing among ALP voters.

The survey also showed only 49 per cent of Queenslanders support Ms Gillard's plan for a $1.8 billion flood levy to help rebuild the state.

The poll of 800 voters across Queensland showed 24 per cent of Labor voters oppose the Gillard Government's tax proposal for flood recovery.

There has been little change in the declared voting intentions of Queenslanders, with Labor slipping from 33.6 per cent to 33 per cent.

The Liberal National Party's primary vote edged up from 47.4 per cent to 48 per cent and the Greens surged from 10.9 per cent to 12 per cent.

The poll suggests voters are nervous about the effect of Labor's deal with the Greens and Independents to retain control of the hung Parliament. Respondents were divided 48 per cent each way on whether the Greens had too much influence on Labor. (so along party voting lines)

Almost two-thirds of respondents say it is too early to tell what impact the Independents will have on the Government.

Only 14 per cent say the arrangement is working better than expected, but this is more than double the 6 per cent from a poll in November.

The damaging results come as an internal Labor election review urged the party to reconnect with its base.

Ms Gillard vowed she would not give up her right to appoint ministers or her Government's ability to overrule her party's policies despite the calls for greater input from rank-and-file members.

"While the party sets the platform, the Government must determine its policies. This is the case now and this must continue," Ms Gillard said.

Rudds ambitions might not be dead in QLD, but QLD is rather dead on him, and Labor in general.

Fair enough, this government have let this state down terribly, this and sold them out.

They have every right to be disappointed with a Labor state and federal government.

Fact: If an election were held now, Tony Abbott would win, especially so in the state of QLD right now.

Whilst they might prefer Rudd to Gillard, they have made it clear, they would prefer a Liberal government.

Thus both Rudd and Gillard are both losers, it's like comparing diseased apples from NZ with imported sour oranges from the USA.

Both Suck, and both don't stand a chance next state and federal election, and noone really wants either of them.

gillards carbon Tax wont Qld take a major hit from that??..its already been stated it will cost jobs.. booby thinks they will pick up jobs through solar panels but then he lives in fairyland.. can you see anyone being happy from income received through the mining jobs and then getting solar panel jobs or maybe even telemarketing jobs.

a bit rich.mind you I cant see rudd doing any different to be honest its all smoke and mirrors after all..as for these popularity polls i am over them whats popular got to do with being a good PM.

may as well ask whats it got to do with being a good mum or dad.

its nothing to brag about crow... as you have already professed you would rather keep a Singaporian in work than an Asutralian book seller..

you do realize that once they have killed off our book sellers and orange growers they can charge what they like... we live on a island we cant just pop in the car and drive to another country to buy cheaper.

I dont buy apples I dislike Aust apples or at least the ones I am forced to buy in our shops.. so i dont buy, but I will be sorely be tempted to buy the NZ ones.the apple industry wont miss my money because they havent had it for years.

if Australian goods are the goods but a little dearer thats okay with me but they have to be quality not crap.I dont put all the blame on the likes of Harvey Norman as reants and staff and insurance and power are all very expensive in this country.. the extra money isnt all going into the bosses pockets.

I was no fan of Rudd as a PM - but he was heaps better than this shower of shite PM we have right now.

She stands for nothing. She just parrots a policy in answer to any question.
She turns her views on their head on a whim.
She is unable to relate to everyday family life and budgeting - having given up that to pursue a career.

A terrible, terrible PM and I'd agree with Queenslanders - I'd rather have Rudd than her.
