Nanny State Anti Smoking Campaign
Apr 7th, 2011 at 4:20pm

Its a Joke people just buy the smokes, throw away the offensive packaging and put their cigs in a generic plastic or metal container.  when will the behavior modifiers give it up - year after year of failure does not deter them from trying to run peoples lives. Cool

...studies show that children and even adults who smoke believe that the cigarettes taste better when they come from a shinny glossy fancy package (even though identical cigarettes were put into fancy and blank packages)

The criminal tobacco corporations also know this.

Currently in Australia 15,000 Australians die from smoking related diseases like cancer etc EACH YEAR

In fact half the total medical costs for the Australian hospital and health care system is due to smoking and drinking of alcohol.

Smokers require several billion dollars of tax payers money to be pumped into the health care system each year.

And the tobacco industry is considering litigation against the Australian givernment for infringement of intellectual property and the freedom of corporate expression etc - laughable!

Philip Morris is also enacting the US free trade agreement SIGNED by our WORST prime minister EVER in 2006 to obatin compensation. This US FREE TRADE AGREEMENT (scam) is about protecting US inverstors.

So why was this thread commenced?

Nanny state bullcrap - the only leg they have to stand on.

Perhaps the Tobacco industry can PAY for the human toll their toxic products produce? Certainly the taxes collected dont cover the costs to the health care system

prevailing - shall I go on? or are embarrassed enough and wish to delete this thread topic

No, just defending the 'right' to smoke.....
Like I'll defend YOUR right to be an idiot....

It's legal, as is drinking, voting for who you choose, and other basic rights...

It makes no difference if I choose to do something 'legal' but harmful.....it's STILL MY choice...

Is it the corporate right of tobacco death merchants to infuse tobacco with ammonia so that the uptake of nicotine can be accelerated and therefore addiction to smoking enahnced?

And do it secretly until a whistle blower chemist  tells all in the USA?

you defend that too?

The only thing you defend is......

well in fact there isnt any evidence that you are able to defend anything

Understandable considering your fascist stand on everything purile and putrid in this world

You need to explain your derranged immorality to your children (if you have any)

Describe the world you wish them to grow up in

LOL

No Fools..I defend MY right to choose to smoke (yes I am a smoker)...and yes I have a child...if HE also chooses to smoke, then I'll defend his right as well....

As long as smoking remains legal, then it IS the individual's right to do so......Not withstanding any medical evidence about '2nd hand smoke' or affects on other people.....those don't actually count.....smokers can move away from other people, that's not a problem......smoking outside etc isn't a worry...

What I object to is 'do-gooders' telling ME what I can, or can't do.....it's MY choice...NOT yours...
If I want to harm myself, then what gives YOU any 'right' to interfer????

Bottom line is that this is a decision that society and the

government SHOULD NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE.

It is, was, and always should be a PERSONAL CHOICE.

It might be a personal choice to handle asbestos fibro products without appropriate protection too - but it is incumbent upon the Govt to legislate to prevent further production and formally regulate the disposal of same!

I personally think that tobacco sales should be more heavily restricted on the grounds of the public health concerns and associated costs - but no Govt has the courage to do so yet...

In the absence of the political will for such restrictions, I support the less heavy-handed approach of removing the status symbols associated with this dangerous addiction - and of providing graphic in-the-face health warnings on cigarette packaging...

Schools, no. Don't be obtuse.

But I have NO problem with it elsewhere.

BTW, I don't smoke. I quit.

But it was MY CHOICE, not that of a useless, self-serving,
social-engineering Nanny-State government..

your lungs are your own busness as long as you dont breathe your carcinogens out - can you do that?

Does the ban on tobacco advertising in the media offend your sensibilities gizmo? If you indeed have any?

In Canada there was recent legal case where the community sued a BIG tobacco corporation for putting Bill board advertisng rigth outside their school.

The corporation challenged the fact that their bill boards were pulled down on the legal grounds that it violated their freedom of exporession.

And what is laughable is that the corporation WON by using this legal defense.

Corporations have attained the legal protection of an individual through decades of litigations and lobby gropus pressured legisaltion.

This is the fascist corporate slave system that you defend with very your last carcinogenic breath

I doubt whether you even understand WHO or WhAT you are defending

You're not even defednign your own human rights which I can understand

But my friends this is the beauty if the brainwashing used in out corpocracy - it gves you the illusion that youre free and defending democracy when in reality youre a slave that bends over every day to you corporate masters for de-rimming
