The only sector propping up Holden and Ford is the government fleet market..without the tax payers these American companies would quickly fold in this country.
It would be far cheaper to retrain the workers in new 21st century industries than continuing to support these American companies in churning out junk cars that are decades behind the rest of the world.

Couldn't agree more  Wink

The truth is, Commodores and Falcons are 3rd rate copies of second rate American cars that is why Aussie consumers are giving them a wide berth.
Given the huge choice of good quality reliable Japanese and Western European cars that we now have in this country who in their right mind would waste thier hard earned cash on a Commodore or a Falcon

The poor quality of Aussie built cars is common knowledge these days so it is no wonder people are flocking to buy Japanese and Western European built cars.
Holdens answer to the small car market is to import a 3rd rate piece of junk from Korea in pieces and build it here..what a joke.
As for Ford, you may as well tear up your money and flush it down the dunny.
The only problem with buying Japanese cars at the moment is the long wait because of the disasters that have befallen the country but I would rather wait 3 mths for a new Japanese car than waste my money on an Aussie built piece of junk that I can have in a day.
My opinion on the Aussie car industry is..good riddence to bad rubbish  Smiley

actually, you are completely wrong. id this was 1980 you'd be right but in the ensuing 30 years the quality of aussie-made cars has come to equal and exceed that of many other countries esp the USA. I own a ford high performance car which has the performance and build quality of a european car worth 2-3 times as much. the interior appointments are the only thing that doesnt compaore. but if you want to pay $150,000 for that then go for it.  and when you actuall drive or own some of these imported cars you realise just how much can go wrong with them - just like cars made here the difference being that replacements or repairs to my FPV GT can be 1/5th that of a high end BMW. and in most cases my car still is faster.

time to get a few facts on the aussie car industry. we arent exporting them to USA UK and even Japan because they are junk.

Any time you see a car broken down on the road it's most likely to be a Ford followed by a Holden. Funny about that Wink

those Holdens are junk. they use cheap arse switches that fall apart and chinese made underated relays in their electrical circuits that burn out. Holden won't supply a relay as a replacement item so you have to spend 400-500 on a whole new board assembly instead of a 20 buck relay. Then you have to get two new keys made up and the whole lot ends up costing you 800 bucks all because of a cheap arse underrated relay !! It's just cheap and nasty.

Those Holden's have major problems with flat batteries and they still can't work out what causes it Sad Just rubbish.

And what about the tinny plasticy cheap arse panels and upholstery !!

Holden has a terrible reputation when it comes to customer satisfaction. Just look at all of the major problems with its Astra's and Barina's.

It's what happens to a poor quality product when you subsidize it using corporate welfare. The product could not survive by itself on a level playing field Sad

there are hardly any tariffs anyhow. bu if you want to pay 3 times as much for a luxury car then go right ahead.

If there are hardly any tariffs now why would I pay 3 times as much as I would now if I bought an Astin Martin DB9 if they were dropped tomorrow?
This is just an example of course  Smiley

yes but the point is they sell lemons to people and Holden doesn't want to know about their problems afterwards. Poor after sales service is typical from this company Sad

drove past an aston martin not that long ago (not a DB9). my car is fabulous but i certinaly felt like a poor cousin next to it!  we share good taste in cars.

But if you want to compare prices etc try comparing prices on real cars not supercars and exotics.
