Once again, they aren't criminals.  And perhaps you'd like to spend a week or two in a detention centre before calling it a hotel?  Not to mention that no government has ever diverted the funds from asylum seekers to the homeless, and the two are NOT interlinked.

So move on.

Arsonists aren't criminals now?

Chuck in a few rapists and assaulters onto the list as well as arson.

Just the sort of people we want here taking up permanent residence.   Pfffft!

Have they been convicted? Innocent until proven guilty, you know that wes.  Don't go jumping the gun.

And for those that are found guilty with committing arson, they are treated as the law intends.  However, the VAST VAST VAST majority of asylum seekers are not arsonists.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, as Seinfeld used to say, being a celebrity CEO and doing a night's camping to raise money for the homeless. I never meant to imply it was a bad thing.
But apart from the publicity, the money is really just a drop in the ocean of what is required to rectify the homelessness situation.
I wonder if the statistics are even accurate. I reckon they would understate the position if anything.
Imagine if a COAG meeting was to announce that they had decided to find billions to build tens of thousands of public housing units of various kinds and set up a committee of people from the likes of Mission Australia & the Salvos to supervise the administration & allocation of it.
What a boost to our economy and to our national pride that would be.

Interesting comparison.

San Diego is regularly voted one of the best cities in America, if not the world.

I still can't believe you've compared it to some backwater, Victorian township of overgrown bushland.
