And people wonder why I (along with a massive majority) voted NO to this system in the recent referendum in Britain??

You're a real international man of mystery, aren't you? What the hell DO you live, exactly?

Hardly mystery. I live in the USA but can't vote here as I am not American.
Hence I am on the UK electoral roll and vote in national, local and EU elections.

You are the reason that we currently have Brown, Gillard and co in power. I hope, and know, that your electorates will remember that come the next election.

So you do understand how important it was to keep Abbott out of government then? - A real disaster narrowly averted.

By the way there is no co power sharing arrangement in place.

Get the facts right, The Greens have the power they have because the Australian population handed them a healthy proportion of the vote in the senate giving them the balance of power on there own.

Yeah great.

just over 1 in 10 people voted for them.

So they get to decide things for the 9 in 10 people that didn't vote for them.

Gotta love the absurd proportional representation system.

Actually i would think any change to the system would do the UK good.

Strangely everyone seems to forget that the government who ever they may be can always negotiate with anyone in the senate to pass legislation. Most goes through without the greens mattering, some even goes through when they object but some will go through with there support. Funny the system here looks very good and works a treat, after all the problems we have look rather small compared to the mess the UK is. I have two sisters living there and they both are amazed at how bad things have got. When they were home recently they both thought Australia was looking good.

It depends on your viewpoint and experiences.
The UK has significant problems - I certainly am aware of that. I have close mates who not long back were out on their backside not in work because of the GFC.

This probably isn't the thread for it, but its hard to compare the UK - which is a service based and financial services based economy to Australia which by complete bareass fortune sits on a tonne of natural resources where you dig it up and sell it to the Chinese.

It's not that much different to comparing why Kuwait and Saudi look pretty decent economy-wise.

Take away the natural resources in QLD and WA and then have a look at the Australian economy. A 2nd year economics studier could run that budget to a surplus.

The UK has social issues as well which are of its own making however I'd also argue Australia is not learning from the mistakes we made in Europe on mass immigration of unsuitable people which contribute to these problems.

maybe its time they took a long hard look at Greece and how the Greeks are handling the austerity budgets the govt is trying to impliment to stop the whole kit and caboodle from going down the drain, and if it goes it will take a few other countries with it..

amazing we are digging ourselves into massive debt more and more each day..the govt has the country climbing the wall because they tell us nothing.everything is top secret.

we are facing the biggest recession,

yet all they tell us is they have 500.000 jobs. somewhere?????.. excuse us if we ask where???and doing what! wont you gillard?

we look around and see our neighbours fighting for their very existence.

and what does this govt worry about.. whos the most popular gillard or rudd... oh thats right, she advises.. be brave fellow laborites be brave... bugger the rest of us.

To be fair, no matter what she does she'd never get your vote anyway.
