South Australians are being let down by a government that allows a man, appointed to help the most disadvantaged, fly business class around the world, the state opposition says.

SA's Social Inclusion Commissioner, Monsignor David Cappo, travelled business class overseas eight times between 2006 and 2010, at a cost of more than $100,000, according to opposition families spokeswoman Vicky Chapman.

Monsignor Cappo is Premier Mike Rann's personal appointment to help the state's disadvantaged.

Ms Chapman says SA families are being let down by the Rann government's funding of such extravagances by Monsignor Cappo and state government heads of departments and department officials.

She says she got the documents that revealed these statistics via a freedom of information request and gave them to a local newspaper.

"The government should be looking after the sick, disabled and vulnerable before they start sending a part-time government employee all over the globe to places ministers and other bureaucrats go," Ms Chapman said.

"We have thousands of people waiting for disability services and more than 27,000 people waiting for government housing.

"Let's look after those people before we fund extravagances."
