A very good question, but I would ask the question how any politician with half a brain could be apart of either of the major parties.

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *

Turnbull doesnt fit with Abbott and half the party that thinks like him, but Turnbull is a classic Liberal if you think of Liberal in the pre-Howard years.

No point Turnbull being an independent. Unless you get a hung parliment, you are useless.
He should start his own "centre-ist" party though. I reackon he could take the left side of the liberals, and the right side of labor and become the 3rd major party.  We be in perpetual hung parliments but  they would either be coalitions of Labor/Turnbulites or Lib/Turnbullites

Or just PM . . .plus he has an uncontrollable urge to stick around (Like Rudd) and contribute whatever he can to the demise of his successor.

Lol, you wish. He is too Left to ever become Leader of the Libs again. They'll stick with Abbott and Bishop, as they should.

although given that the Libs have the biggest margin in DECADES he is obviously not doing much of a job destabilising!

Why change a winning game plan? The Coalition has a much higer primary and two party preferred vote, and Abbott has caught up to Gillard as preferred PM. No way will Turnbull get the numbers to become leader.
