Gotta say, that'd be a welcome change for me.

Lately our societies seemed to have moved away from moral principles that we used to have 40/50 years ago.

Now we get dictated to by tree huggers, poofters and assorted immigrants.

God only knows what my Grandparents' generation would make of what we have become and who we have allowed to speak up.
Britain and the US getting dictated to by Chinese people and Indians.

Jeezus, what is happening to this world.

Clearly, your standards for moral principles do not extend to socio-economic fairness and environmental responsibility for the overall benefit of fellow human beings in both current and future generations!?

Seriously, why the pretense - why not just point out that: above all else, you worship the almighty dollar (i.e., the Mickey Mouse Monopoly Money of the insatiable, divisive and destructive Growth Fairy and his evil twin the Good Greedy Witch of the West)!?

Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!

He who pays the piper calls the tune.

To quote one of my colleagues (whilst stood on the fairway of Torrey Pines last month) -

"Who the hell do other countries think they are telling us what to do? This is fking America, they should all be bowing down and kissing our goddamn asses"

My colleague is from Tennessee......

You colleague is an idiot, I hope you took the time to point out the implications of China calling in the debt they hold.
That without these "Gooks" he'd be scrapping the barn floor looking for that kurnel of corn to feed his family for a week.

The Tenessee guy perceived the situation with the correct insight.

It takes a special kind of idiot or a greedy bastard to lend money to America and then hope thereby somehow to have a leverage with them. As the Americans rightly say, if they are stupid enough to give us their money, let them.

What is China going to do? Stop sending them stuff for their $2 shops? Nobody actually needs China. All that shoddy crap can be made elsewhere, it's just that the Chinese are insanely cheap.

The arse would fall out of China very quickly, on the other hand, if the rich countries decided not to buy their shoddy crap.

I hold no pretense.
I value hard work, fairness, monetary reward and a good environment for our children.

Hence why I am quite proud to say that my employer last year spent US$695m on cleaner energy and resourcing process improvements.

$695 million.

I think you'd make a better anything than accountant.

Your understanding of finance matters is at times truly abysmal.
Most of the time you just parrot the Labor policy on finance without really understanding what half of it means.

Hence your referral to my prior tax returns as evasion.

All I've been seeing lately is Draconian laws favoring religious institutions and far right principles. The new laws against swearing on public? An absolute joke. Our politicians have been heard swearing in PARLIAMENT. This is a blatant breach of freedom of speech and seriously draws into question the legitimacy of our constitution.

The right for churches to discriminate? Just as ridiculous. I don't keep up with Victorian politics, but who is in control right now, and what the hell is going on?

This sort of thing has been and is happening all the time and all parties dabble in it. For instance the new religion of global warming/climate change/stranded polar bears on postage size sheets of ice, has received the government's imprimatur. Many government ministers and their myrmidons are members of this new religion. This new church is also allowed to discriminate and refuses to ventilate any theories or assertions that call into question Gaia.

Cussing and swearing in public? I don't know what the call sign in Victoria is but 2JJJ in Sydney operates without any gag orders. Cussing and swearing are normal on that radio station so your much cherished ideal of being able to hear your favourite expletives continues with the protection of the federal minister responsible for radio broadcasting.

Personally, Im happy there are some anti-swearing laws. and they are hardly draconian laws as they attack the very worst of it. Dont some of you get a bit embarrassed by the plethor of F and C words loudly spoken to by people without much of a vocabulary? whatid like to see id the removal of those ultra-offensive words from tshirts.

And the right for women and homosexuals to discriminate?  Is that equally as ridiculous?

I expect it's better than your knowledge on the application and technical specifications of membrane coatings

Or the differences in the Western and Asavari music scales

And I make for a better writer and hedonist than I do an accountant or mercenary. I make no apology for that, nor would I want to change it. Nonetheless, what puts humanity at the top of the animal kingdom is the capacity for rational thought, so I seek to capitalize on that.

The last thing I want is to become Lord of the Flies controlled by ill conceived emotions blurted about physically and verbally, off the cuff, without first deciding if they are warranted or justified. I'm an alfa animal and not some lower order species of the kingdom. Just because chimps emote the bulk their lives away doesn't mean that I have to. My brain, your brain, is better than that.

You would be in awe of what can be said with the right level of sense and sensibility... yet not a swear word to be heard.

Anyways... history makes it clear that the less rational and more emotional a society becomes, the closer we are to the end of that civilization.

One might 'hope' that this applies to political games too - the sooner, that Tony Abbott's rabid antics stop undermining and destabilising our Parliament and our community and economy, the better...

Let's take gay marriage for example - would you say the case for it is  more emotional or rational?

I've heard its close when creativity dies.
How many remakes sequels are there every year now.
I heard yesterday they are re.making "Footloose"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068242/
(I'd really love to swear here I think most would agree it is a rational as well as emotional response)

Remakes & Reality is all we get although a lot of creative writing does go into the "Reality programs" Wink
