Interest rates to fall
Jul 16th, 2011 at 7:57am

According to the boffins at Westpac Aussie interest rates will soon begin to fall.
The neo cons have always said falling interest rates are a sign of good govt economic managment..personally I think that is absolute crap but I do hope the neo con cheer squad will stick to their guns and now praise Julia and Wayne for doing what Howard couldnt do in his last 2 terms of govt.
After more than a decade of spin and lies about interest rates and what they actually indicate will the neo cons backflip on their mantra that good govts give us falling interest rates?

It's a far shy away from the Carbon Tax doom and gloom predicted by Abbott.

It's actually bad news, if you look at the motives behind the drop. Look at the countries with low interest rates, they're cot cases.

Try and convince the conservative lobby, for them it is only a tool to attach moderates with. At this time what are actually quite reasonable interest rates are high internationally because our economy is doing well. In fact if you consider that we have manage to incur what is seen as a small debt over the GFC while reducing personal debt to much more acceptable levels including a moderation of house prices making the cost of life more reasonable. There is always a struggle to understand cost of living as an overall pressure. Yes fuel has gone up at no fault of anyone but the market and if our dollar was not so high the price would be $2.
But milk and bread is down, fruit and veg has now begun to moderate and meat had stopped its uncontrolled rise.

The fear now is that the rest of the world goes into another free fall, Greece defaults, spain and Italy joint the bankrupt and the US have now gone close enough to default that confidence has been lost. This all looks more and more like another dip in the ongoing GFC that is still running for most of the world. We again may hold up better because of ongoing Chinese domestic growth, but we cannot afford another round of stimulas and do the Chinese really want to bail everyone out again?

adel hard for you to understand I know that..

but these are not NORMAL times...

take a look at the US dollar... take a look at what is happening in the US..not healthy not healthy at all..

if you choose not to look at the real world as it is in 2011... then keep up the catcalling..

the interest rates are based on what will keep the country steady at all times... not just when the Libs are in.

Howard had the good years I will grant you that...

it would be interesting to know what they would be doing if they were in charge..

however they are not..

the world in case you havent noticed is in a mess..the Middle East riots and even civil wars...Europe riots and anger. bail out bail out... how long can that go on.?

and you bring up childish neo cons rubbish...when are you going to grow up?

You fail to mention that Australia is not relying on any of the people that are in trouble for anything more then Military support. We get our cash from China and they're better then fine.

Unfortunately it is the banks that decide interest rates now. Never used to be the case but once Costello left and was replaced by a whiney child the banks move on their own.

Your real problem with lower rates is that it might help house prices. and we cant have that, can we. you are so embittered you would enjoy a 5% RISE in rates just so more people can lose their homes.

There is more to lowering interest rates than just keeping inflation down, just like they over inflated the interest rates on their own regardless of inflation.

Didn't you say yesterday the RBA has never got a thing right?
Now your complaining the banks run the joint, who do you want to control cash rates?
Banks have always controlled their interest rates, it's just when the cash rate continues to climb to try and control inflation they don't need to raise their rates independent of the reserve to maintain their 10%+ profit growth every 6 months.

I demand compo if rates fall, I have investments Angry

Do you really think that interest rates just apply to mortgages?  Grin  Grin

Personally, I couldn't care if interest rates go up or down.

Now, you tell me what the problem with low interest rates are, and tell me why the rates might fall 1%.
