Climate change debate will always be a mess while clowns like Monckton get so much coverage in the press.

Go look at news.com.au right now. There was a climate debate at the national press club between Monckton and a real scientist.   Guess who news ltd quote.

No, not the scientist who actually knows what he is talking about.

Yep, that might be the one I watched..
If it's Dr Richard Denniss...he's an economist and  freely admits he's NOT a climate scientist...as does Lord Monckton..

However, going by audience reaction, and they were journalists (i.e. professional cynics), Lord Monckton won the debate...despite a couple of really pathetic attempts to smear Monckton...one by the girl from 'The Campus Review' and one by the guy from Channel 7 ...

Seriously, if this guys eyes pop any further out of his head, they will surely fall out.

I can hardly respect a person who claims to be a Lord but isn't. Of all the hypocrisies that he calls the Climate change scientists "frauds".

unlike these spineless wonders here, china is not afraid to take on the fossil fool corporations and build electric cars. It has more power derived from renewables than we will ever have here.

Is that you're only problem??
Because the correct form of address when speaking to a Viscount is 'Lord', and before 1999 ALL 789 members of the hereditary peerage in Britain where members of the House of Lords..

So Lord Monckton IS in fact a Lord of the Realm..

And why is a medical condition something to 'complain' about???
Would you make 'fun' of someone with cancer, or dwarfism, or diabetes??? Why is Grave's Disease such a joke???

I'm not sure he 'claims' to be..but being a 'Lord'  isn't predicated on being a member of the House....
Being a 'Member' of Peerage IS...Whether or not he gets to sit in the 'House of Lords' doesn't affect whether or not he's a Viscount..which he IS...and the correct form of address when speaking to or about a Viscount IS 'Lord'..

Last year, the then clerk of the parliaments, Michael Pownall, wrote to Monckton stressing that he was not entitled to call himself a member, nor should he use parliament's famous portcullis symbol on his letterheads or lecture slides, as he has done for a number of years.

Monckton wrote back stating that "the House of Lords Act 1999, which purported to exclude hereditary peers from membership of the House of Lords, is defective". He argued that the act removed the right to sit or vote in the upper house, but did not remove membership because peerages are granted by letters patent, which are a personal gift of the monarch. Monckton claimed in the letter that "only a specific law can annul a grant. The 1999 act was a general law."

Buckingham Palace was drawn into the dispute when it was revealed that Pownall had sought advice from the Lord Chamberlain, a key officer in the royal household, on the potential misuse of the portcullis emblem due to it being the property of the Queen. The Buckingham Palace website states that any misuse of the emblem is prohibited by the Trade Marks Act 1994, meaning Monckton could potentially be liable for fines and a six-month prison term if the palace pursues the matter and successfully prosecutes him.

Monckton has since been using a slightly altered portcullis emblem on his lecture slides. The two chains hanging either side of portcullis are now kinked instead of straight. It is not known whether the Lord Chamberlain is content with the change. A spokesperson told the Guardian that the palace was "aware of the issue", but it had a policy of not commenting on private correspondence between it and an individual

Monckton claims to be able to cure AIDS, malaria and MS. He falsely claims to be a member of the House of Lords. He lies about being a science advisor to Thatcher, he's actually a classics major. Why on earth anyone would then accept his misrepresentations of science an authoritative opinion really reflects badly on the denier movement.

Modernising the UKs economy as well as citing climate change as reasons why coal mines in the UK needed to be closed down was ok for arch conservative Maggie Thatcher but not ok for modern progressive pollies. Maggie Thatcher must have been a crazy communist with no thought for businesses or job creation according to Abbott and his mad Lord mate  Grin

There was also THIS one, from the modern day Walter Mitty ...

Sorry Lord Monckton
You are a fraud

Hugh Riminton

Let’s leave the argument about climate change for other people and another day.

This is all about your continued claims to be something you are not - the winner of the Nobel Prize.

The third Viscount Monckton of Brenchley was in Canberra yesterday. He held a private audience with Tony Abbott. Then he addressed an adoring audience who were quite happy to join him in an oddly schoolboyish display.

Lord Monckton would bellow “ETS?”. The crowd needed little encouragement to shout back “NO!” And so on.

But the disturbing element was Lord Monckton’s insistence on Truth. If Truth needed further bolstering, he broke into Latin. He invoked everyone from 12th Century Arabic philosophers to Pontius Pilate. “Quid Est Veritas?” asked Lord Monckton.

Quid, indeed.

He left no doubt that his was a life in lonely dedication to Truth - that thing, he says, that never changes no matter how many lies are told.

For him, human-caused global warming is not simply wrong, or bad science. It is a lie. Or in his view, many lies.
So back to his Nobel prize.

For some time - Google “Monckton” and “Nobel Prize” and see for yourself - the great sceptic-in-chief has been passing himself off as a Nobel Laureate.

Cornered last month by the Sydney Morning Herald, he reportedly said it was “a joke, a joke.”

Yet the website of his organisation, the Science and Public Policy Institute - as of yesterday - continues to press the claim.

The site is extremely specific. Lord Monckton “earned the status of Nobel Peace Laureate (through) his contribution to the IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report in 2007.”

That contribution itself is detailed. Furthermore, the website continues, “his Nobel Prize pin…was presented to him by the Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Rochester, New York.”

What credible person would not correct the error immediately - if it is indeed an error.

To be sure,
I rang the Nobel Committee that administers the Peace Prize.

Committee secretary Geir Lundestat had never heard of Lord Monckton. I emailed him the Monckton website.

“The claim is ridiculous,” said Lundestat. “He is not a laureate - no way, no way.”

Thousands of people, he said, participated in the program of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 prize with Al Gore.

“But the organisation won the prize. Not even Dr Rajendra Pachauri (the chair of the IPCC) is an individual laureate.”

No individual, no matter what their involvement with the IPCC, can pass themselves off an a Nobel Laureate.

As for Lord Monckton’s Nobel Prize pin?

“It certainly wasn’t issued by us,” said Lundestat. “We have no pin.”

So now you know. Not that the news will disturb many of those lovers of Truth who pack the halls to hear him speak

But WAIT ... there's MORE from this FRAUDSTER !

Letter to Viscount Monckton of Brenchley from David Beamish, the Clerk of the Parliaments.

Dear Lord Monckton

My predecessor, Sir Michael Pownall, wrote to you on 21 July 2010, and again on 30 July 2010, asking that you cease claiming to be a Member of the House of Lords, either directly or by implication. It has been drawn to my attention that you continue to make such claims.

In particular, I have listened to your recent interview with Mr Adam Spencer on Australian radio. In response to the direct question, whether or not you were a Member of the House of Lords, you said "Yes, but without the right to sit or vote". You later repeated, "I am a Member of the House".

I must repeat my predecessor's statement that you are not and have never been a Member of the House of Lords. Your assertion that you are a Member, but without the right to sit or vote, is a contradiction in terms. No-one denies that you are, by virtue of your letters Patent, a Peer. That is an entirely separate issue to membership of the House. This is borne out by the recent judgment in Baron Mereworth v Ministry of Justice (Crown Office) where Mr Justice Lewison stated:

"In my judgment, the reference [in the House of Lords Act 1999] to 'a member of the House of Lords' is simply a reference to the right to sit and vote in that House ... In a nutshell, membership of the House of Lords means the right to sit and vote in that House. It does not mean entitlement to the dignity of a peerage."

I must therefore again ask that you desist from claiming to be a Member of the House of Lords, either directly or by implication, and also that you desist from claiming to be a Member "without the right to sit or vote".

I am publishing this letter on the parliamentary website so that anybody who wishes to check whether you are a Member of the House of Lords can view this official confirmation that you are not
.

David Beamish
Clerk of the Parliaments

15 July 2011
