Climate denier Monckton to talk in Ballarat

17 Jul, 2011 07:30 PM

PROMINENT climate change denier Christopher Monckton will speak at St Patrick’s College pavilion at 7pm tonight as part of a national tour.
Mr Monckton will deliver his address titled: A Carbon Tax will Bankrupt Australia — The Science Does Not Justify It.

The college’s pavilion was booked for the event by the Democratic Labor Party on behalf of the Climate Deniers Party of Mt Gambier.

Mr Monckton is currently touring Australia to argue that the cost of reducing global warming will far outweigh any possible damage.

He has also criticised both the federal government and Australia’s chief scientist Professor Ross Garnaut and warned Australia will become a third world country if a carbon tax is implemented.

Democratic Labor Party Senator John Madigan previously told The Courier if Mr Monckton’s visit generates discussion “we might all learn something”.

“There are some things Monckton and I agree on and some things we don’t, but if Monckton’s visit stimulates the debate, then it’s a good thing,” Mr Madigan said.

“If it gets some good debate and doesn’t degenerate into playing the person and not the issue, then great, I’m all for it.”

Earlier this month, St Patrick’s College distanced itself from Mr Monckton, with principal Peter Casey pointing out the school did not endorse Mr Monckton’s views but supported the right to freedom of speech.

The college has received numerous phone calls asking them not to hold the event.

“The hiring of the college pavilion to the DLP in no way indicates support, tacit or otherwise, for the views of (Mr) Monckton, the DLP or the Climate Sceptics Party,” Dr Casey said.

However, he said the school did support freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.

Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, said the views of Mr Monckton had been “discredited by expert climate scientists from around the world and no-one with any credibility supports them”.

“In contrast, climate scientists across the nation and the globe support and inform the Government’s view on climate change and leading businesses, institutions and individuals endorse putting a price on carbon,” Ms King said

Though, he MAY turn a profit in Ballarat
If you've not BEEN there, it's an inland, Victorian country town made up of - and with ONLY - western suburbs

You'll ALWAYS see a queue of "Ferrets" and "Michelles" outside the Centrlink office

Well according to our resident liberal staffer Maqqa it is now quite acceptable to tell the PM to bugger off,
http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1310892317/14#14
so I suppose going to the meeting and yelling out
"bugger off you lying bug eyed prick"
is well within the bounds of reasonable debate Roll Eyes

It's ironical that when you get taxed out of existence for your fossil fools you don't complain about it but when it's an electric vehicle designed to essentially eliminate taxes at the fool bowser you will go out of your way to nit pick at it !!

This is why you dumb arsed libbos are a dangerous species right up there with your ancestry from the flat earth society Sad

I believe climate change is partly caused by human actions, so I disagree with Monckton.

My view though is I refuse to see why just some of us should pick up the bill for dealing with a global problem.

People like you just want us all to be stuck in the dark ages, paying 10 bucks per liter for your polluting filth Sad

How do you give "scientific respect" - where nothing "scientific" is put on the table ?

Yeah I watched the debate between Lord Monckton and Dr Richard Denniss....Quite entertaining, and fairly interesting..

Although I think Dr Denniss should have lightened up with the 'conspiracy' stuff a bit...Made him sound like a broken record..
