Socialist Alternative and Socialist Alliance
Sep 4th, 2011 at 6:32pm

Does anyone on this forum know what differentiates between the Socialist Alliance and the Socialist Alternative? Both are fringe Far-Left groups that exist primarily in inner-city areas of Australian capital cities. They are the thugs behind the BDS and anti-Israel protests outside Max Brenner chocolate shops. Both the Socialist Alliance and Socialist Alternative seem to have a common cause - demonise the West at any possibility whether it be based on fact or fiction. In Sydney the Alliance has been loosely working with the Greens, particularly those Greens on Marrickville Council such has Marika Kontellis and Cathy Peters.

What is the core political difference between the Alliance and the Alternative? One would have thought that the Far-Left would want to stick together and not fragment into even smaller sects.

The only form of Socialism I will accept is Democratic Centre Left Socialism. These guys demonstrate that the Far Left can be just as bad as the Right.

the  Left in Australia is small and weak. The Greens Party is as Left as it gets in terms of people seriously thinking about who should govern

Yet has the same proportional support as the Nat's on their best days and the Lib's on their worst days and those two still manage to form government. Go figure. Maybe your old, rusty model of bipartisan politics is coming to a close? If I was you (ie a one-eyed ideologue with an axe to grind) I'd be very afraid of coal seam gas and the wedge against the Nat's in the bush over this issue. Above and beyond every major defining issue in Australia today, this is potentially the most seismic issue to really shift political alliances in a way that hasn't been seen in 60 years. Yopu laugh now but the Greens have embedded themselves as a third party in a way yjay no-one has done since the Country Party was in power. Grin

Only because we have a fixed electoral system which deals third parties out of the equation. luckily though, we have Senate representation that is proportional to their level of support in the community Smiley

I think you mean an electoral system that requires MPs to (gasp!) WIN their seat by coming first. You greens just want a special olympics-style system that rewards participation rather than victory.

.........

Listen to Ben Fordham get stuck into Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon over her endorsement of the radical Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) policy against Israeli businesses and lashes her for supporting bigotted protesters outside Max Brenner chocolate shops. Bob Brown must be spitting chips everytime Rhiannon opens her mouth!
