How is Wilkie's poker machine reform fair?
Sep 19th, 2011 at 9:20pm

One MP, who came third in 1/150 divisions in Australia, and I am guessing something like 0.3% of the total vote, gets this reform that is taking away common privacy and the freedom of democracy.

I, for one, am sick of the presumption of a 'right to exploit' which underpins our anti-social and anti-environment economic system!

Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!

Matty hates Australian democracy and wants to overthrow the tenets of our Westminster system (or is as dumb as dog-sh1t and doesn't actually understand our Westminster system, either way) maybe if she doesn't like Australian democracy then she should piss off to somewhere where politics is run by mob-rule. I hear Somalia is nice his time of year?

Exploit the weakness in the human nature.
This people which talk about that junior sporting teams will suffer are really the worst hypocites, because most of gambling profits go to gevernments and some overpaid senior sports-people.

and the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away...

in this case swap Lord for LABOR..

seems to me govts have made a mint out of suckers.. or as some would have it the exploited ones...

what about Lotto.. scratchies..TAB.. a lot of people are addicted to those as well..

its the same with cigarettes and alcohole.. the biggest whore is the govt..

and all they do is spin spin spin.. all in the name of saving all those suckers that they depend on..when they get around to legalising Heroin.. then they can TAX the hell out of it and put a needle exchange on every corner..its their answer to saving the drug addict..

the answer to saving the poker addict from himself.. is for him to decide what his limit will be.......on any given night.day. or club... how will it work..how will it prevent families falling apart how will it stop him turning to another form of gambling?..

does it matter the govt will still be assured of their cut of  raking the money  in..after all its voluntary isnt it????

Funny I thought it was Tony who was going to wind back any action on poker machines.
Are you saying he'll wind back the reforms but not accept the taxation revenue?

I'm backing Wilkie all the way on this, and he won't back down. Good on him. That's why we vote independents. I'm lovin' it!!!!!

It's about time governments and big business stopped making their huge profits off the back of vulnerable people. Go suck it up some other way.

Well, I play them so infrequently, and spend/lose so little money, that it really won't bother me.

Personally, I'd simply slash their numbers to reduce availability.

They should NEVER have been allowed in hotels, for example.

But, having said that, gambling addicts will simply go elsewhere to get their 'fix'.

There's always online, SP bookies, TAB etc......

You started a wilkie thread last week, and if you go back 3 pages there is another thread on this topic.

Stop being a lazy prat determined to get your name on the front page and just contribute to existing threads.

It won't work very well - if at all. People will turn from poker machines to other forms of gambling, such as online, Keno, etc. I agree something has to be done to curb obsessive gambling, but I don't think this is the way to go about it.

Gimme & DRH were all about their posts, they didn't give a toss if 1 or 100 responded.
