This government seriously doesn't deserve to stay in power. I am not saying that lightly. They have been abysmal and almost everything they have touched they have made a mess of.
Abbott is not the leader for the coalition - they have better quality candidates and generally better "real" world experience than labor.
The Greens are just plain dangerous - What we need is a revamped Australian Democrats party. A real alternative with real policies.
I am so tired of people running this country that have never been responsible for putting the pay packets of employees in their pockets. What we need is a few good candidates from the small business sector - these people really are the working poor yet they continue the battle. We need backbone and principle to make a comeback to Australian politics.
Maybe i should just start my own party - any takers.
I started a post on Turnbull joining the Democrats the other day I think it would be good if he did join them and they would be a strong party then.
and people said that they were dead in the water
I still think that there is life and potential left in the Australian Democrats yet. I myself am involved in the party, so if you would like to get involved or ask any questions feel free to PM me!
The Greens have done there level best to push the 'Australian Democrats are dead' but my personal experience is that the party is FINALLY getting themselves in order. There is also a lot of new members from both the ALP and LP joining. Ex-Liberals are joining, angry at Abbott conservatism and lack of policy, and ex-ALP members are frustrated with their lack of voice in the party and the it's lurch to the right on social issues.
Surely now is the best period for a return of the Democrats. Major parties are on the nose and middle Australia won't touch the Greens. Not dead! If you are lamenting the absence of the Democrats, get involved and help us rebuild the party.
The Democrats gave us the GST, and the many ex-leaders of the Democrats are living on fat parliamentary pensions, some at very young age, and the Greens will probably go the same way; at least they will not be able to collect the parliamentary super untill they turn sixty, but they will still be much better off than the average citizen.
The carbon tax will hit the low income people just as bad as the GST does, despite all the compensations because the compensations will lose value over time. It is just another tax.
Not going to get into a fight over the GST, so 2001. All I will say is that neither side of politics (greens, ALP, LP any other party i can think of) wants to get rid of it. Could it be improved? Sure. But it has helped fund a LOT of state infrastructure.
As for Dems on parliamentary pension? No different to ALP and LP ex-MPs who are now in exactly the same position. In fact, at least those of the minor parties have to work harder to get in and hold their seat unlike many candidates of the major parties who either work in big business or a unionist. Unfair attack in my opinion.
And with regards to the CT, if you are worried about hitting low income earners then surely you wont be backing Abbotts which costs $1,300 odd each no matter whether you are on $40,000 or $500,000. CT isn't perfect but is better than the DA alternative.
