You generally sound silly. And that comes from being uninformed. Ditto! Well said! And yet I have done all of those things. And I repeat , "christian" and "right wing" are two mutually exclusive terms. You CANNOT be a christian and right wing at the same time.. No ifs. No buts. I think a lot of people confuse 'fundamental' and/or 'conservative' with 'right wing'.... And that's beside the point. It is impossible for a christian to be "right wing" and it's impossible for a christian to be " conservative".Jesus was neither. Why?? Isn't wanting to keep to the original traditions of the bible a christian idea?? What original traditions are you talking about? The genocide encouraged and practiced by the god of the old testament? The misogyny encouraged and practiced by the god of the OT? The cruelty encouraged and practiced practiced by the god of the OT? No, the rules and attitudes espoused by Jesus....(hence the term christian) So NOT the "original" traditions of the bible. No, the 'original' traditions of the christian religion.....as listed in the new testament, not the jewish traditions, as listed in the old testament(Hebrew bible) The original traditions of the christian religion dont include being right wing and conservative. Amazing how you can glean exactly what Jesus' politcal views were, from an almost 2000 year old text, written hundreds of years after his death. A touch of wishful thinking on your behalf methinks. Looking at how much what defines a "conservative" has changed over just the last 50 years, I think it's pretty safe to say that the definition would have changed somewhat since jesus' day....so to make the statement that "right wing" thinking is mutually exclusive to christianity is a bit of a nothing statement. Maybe you could clarify what you define as 'conservative right wing" views, and state what is incompatible with your idea of what jesus' thought? Yes I am using todays definition of "conservative" and comparing it to the reported sayings and actions of jesus 2000 years ago. By todays standards jesus would not be called "conservative". What is todays definition of conservative? When you think of a conservative do you think of paleoconservatives? neocons? the religious right? I was thinking of the dictionary definition, "a: tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions : traditional" So not in the political sense at all... Which is basically the point, the 'religious right' is a mixed metaphor...
