You can't be right wing and a follower of Jesus -
Jesus was a communist.
Close bobby....political revolutionary for certain...more 'freedom fighter' than commie...
Matthew 19:
Quote:[23] Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
[24] And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
That sort of leaves out rich right wingers doesn't it?
Next Longweekend will be telling us that he's poor.
jesus was apolitical - "Give to ceaser what is ceasers and to God what is Gods"
Spiritual matters and political matters are of different spheres.
jesus was rich, his followers were rich.
the eye of a needle may have referred to the gateway of the villages/towns of that time.
The tops of the walls met over the entrance, were called a needle. For a camel to go through the eye of a needle may have been for a camel to walk through the gateway into the village/town.
According to some.
Other theories are that a "gemel" (not sure of spelling) was a coin .
So it was impossible for a "gemel" to go through the eye of a needle.
Another linguistic possibility was that a "chemel" was a thick rope. So it was impossible for this thick rope to be threaded through the eye of a needle.
The "needle equals the city gate" theory is possible and the camels entering would have to get on their knees to enter the gates but the implication is that a rich man would have to get down on his knees to enter the kingdom of heaven.
A rich man being humble and supplicating himself. Getting down on his knees.
No such implication for the poor and meek.
Seems to me that rich people have EXTRA responsibilities before they could enter heaven.
