Seven billion people..and counting

What does that mean to us?
Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

In economic terms it means continuing economic growth...or does it?

Do we have the current, or even implied resources to continue such growth?

What happens when you no longer get interest on your money because of limited resources?

We don't have the capacity to grow any further. We can expect a series of impacts as our global ecosystem deteriorates. Our deeply intertwined and complex global financial market which is prone to panic, driven by fear and uncertainty will suddenly wake up to this which will lead to a dramatic drop in share markets and a tightening of capital supply.

Over she goes!

The resulting series of economic and political crisis will be massive in scale and decades long.

We are starting to see signs of this decline right now.

Don't worry, it won't be the end, just a transition to a new economy. There are people that are exploring a range of exciting activities that will prepare us for the transition, but one thing is certain, we have come to the end of exponential growth.

We started the downward spiral in 2008 when Mother Nature and the market said "no more".

Economic growth is meaningless without real world resources.  It means we have to use and innovate with real world resources to become more efficient.

There's what, 3 billion people to lift out of their version of abject poverty, to our version of abject poverty, much less any semplence of real wealth.  Plenty of growth opportunities abound.

Politicians and Nappies need to be changed often and for the same reason.

One trouble with political jokes is that they often get elected.

There's no room for that sort of growth. Where do we get the materials to make the cars and houses they'll need? Where do we get the room to grow the trees and plants for food and to counteract CO2 emissions, the food.

The list goes on and on, but we live in a finite world. We won't have the resources to support such growth. Even if that many people were able to survive on earth, who would want to live under such hellish conditions.

The government has already told us that there will be no nursing homes for generation Y when they reach old age. We are battling to keep up services for the population we have at present.

Why don't we just bump them off now and be done with it then?
