Bail-out tourist industry?
Nov 9th, 2011 at 1:03pm

Who next? They all want a bail-out.

For one thing haven't they noticed the GFC? For two things, the rise in Nationalism is rather off-putting, no one wants to get insulted by racist comments while they are trying to chill out. For three things, it's too expensive and not good value for $$$$.

Help us before it's too late - Aussie tourism industry

THE tourism industry is facing desperate times with more travellers shunning Aussie holidays than ever before.

Tourism & Transport Forum CEO John Lee said the industry needed urgent Government assistance with the number of Australians heading overseas continuing to grow at a double digit pace, while the number of international visitors has fallen.

The gap between the number of Australians heading overseas and international tourist arrivals hit at an all time high of 360,000 in September, new ABS figures show.

Arrivals fell 9 per cent to 432,000 last month compared to the same time last year, while the number of Aussies travelling overseas jumped 8.9 per cent to 790,600, bringing the tourism deficit so far this year to more than 1.5 million.

I know you are not racist wesley so I would never accuse you of it lol.

I used to hear racist comments pretty well on a daily basis when I was in the workforce.

"Your from Croatia? I bet you never want to go home", inferring Australia must be better than home.

The Asians copped it, the Middle Eastern, the Europeans, why don't they talk bugger English.

Have you not heard any racist remarks on Ozpolitics wesley?

I have received it on here from the likes of Buzz who stated I can't be an Aussie (depite being born in Melbourne) because of my heritage.

My mother also received it in Australia for speaking English with an Afrikaans tinted accent - therefore she must be racist because she is a white south african right??

That tended to be from people who allegedly are the 'socialists' of this world.

Kind of like in the riots held in the UK a few years back by the Anti-Nazi League who were campaigning against racism.
Yet in the riot they targetted a black police officer in the front line - for being a "sell out" - if that isnt an action based on race I wouldnt know what is.

Those who claim to be not racist - tend to let their guard down now and and again.

I didn't realise prospective tourists checked out the comments on ozpolitic to help decide whether they would visit or not.

And well, your examples of "racism" are remarkably petty.  Perhaps you should visit some non-white countries (not on a contiki tour) and see whether they 'celebrate your diversity'.

The high Australian dollar is the main reason for the slight drop in arriving tourist numbers and the larger number of Australians going overseas.

I would rather we had an economy based on manufacturing and exports than on tourism anyway.

In particular he should visit India and see how his corporate mates in Canada have been offloading 1000's of tonnes of asbestos so the Indians can make cheap roofing Sad

Yes I saw that on foreign correspondent last night. All with the blessing of Steven Harper another one of the war mongers who signed up with the coalition of the killing Sad

It is a well known fact that Australia is racist. From the Chinese and the gold rush days to the Europeans, Vietnamese and the Middle Eastern and the Indigenous people who's land we invaded, we have systematically treated less than equal. We are racist. Just look at the derogatory way you speak about black people wesley, you are a racist through and through then you have the hide to question if the whole country is more like you or more like me. It is just like you wesley....well racist and you should have the guts to own up to it.

Those images of the Cronulla riot which were shown all over the world are a great advertisement for Aussie inclusiveness and tolerance. I'm sure Indian students go home and heap glowing praise on their time here too.

I don't deny 'we' are racist, I just don't care, and neither do most non-whites. It's not a big deal - It's well known that it's only white countries that give a hoot about being called racist.  Non-whites are quite open about valuing their culture more highly than ours, or anyone elses - and why wouldn't they?
If you think applying labels to people counts as valid criticism or refutation of their ideas, then I too can play that game - I will just apply the label of 'idiot' to you and be done with it.

I am curious as to the way I 'speak about black people' though.  To which 'black people' are you referring?  Aborigines?  Bantus?  Pygmies?Indians?  Or are they all the same to you?   All statements can be backed up - but those of your persuasion do not want to know.

So going by your justification, if other people are ratbags then that excuses you acting like a ratbag does it? Is that really how your mummy raised you? If people in other countries treat others poorly it's no justification for us to act likewise as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, and valuing one's culture is a looooooong way from racism. Obviously you don't understand that. I was born in Italy and value my Italian culture. I was raised here and also value my Australian culture. I can take pride in both. But neither one gives me leave to be talking about wogs, slapheads, boongs and towelheads as some of the bogans around me do.

Firstly, I'd more accuartely class myself as a 'race-realist'.  the fact that such a term has needed to be coined, and is becoming widely used, is a sad indictment of the sensitivity and ferocity of the 'anti-racists'.  Seeking out the nebulous 'racism' is done with a fervour parallelled by the spanish inquisition, the salem witch trials, mccarthyism etc etc throughout human history.  I'm not excusing lynching or anything like that because, quite frankly, such incidents, and the views that would lead to them are extremely rare.  Extremely rare.  But the tendency of the anti-racist is to ignore all shades of grey.  It is to equate even the mildest manifestation of, not even discrimination, but so much as acknowledgement of the very existence of race, with racial genocide.

I reject this inquisition, so I will excuse "racism" becuase while excessive racism is not excusable, what passes for racism according to the anti-racist is most certainly excusable.  Not only excusable - it is universal.
So when I say 'everyone else does it' it does excuse it.  Because if Indians view race one way, and africans view it the same way...and so do the aborigines, the chinese, the japanese, the inuits.....and the only group that doesn't, are white proponents of leftist ideology - a tiny minority globally - then I'd rather get on board with the 99%.

From there it's not a stretch to say the arrogance of the members of that minority who beleive that their view is the only view, and the other 99% are wrong would suggest they are true elitists, the true racists...but that might be a bit much for one day.
