I'm afraid that he has earned his 'Sloppy Joe' nickname - not least since he's responsible for 'Hockeynomics'!

I, for one, remain hopeful that the next Liberal-Coalition Govt will be led by Malcolm Turnbull!

Defiant Malcolm Turnbull taking a gamble over Tony Abbott's gaming policy by: Simon Benson and Patrick Lion From: The Daily Telegraph November 11, 2011 12:00AM

MALCOLM Turnbull is openly defying Opposition Leader Tony Abbott over his new direction on gaming policy.
In a video tribute from anti-gambling advocate Tim Costello posted on Mr Turnbull's website, Mr Costello praises Mr Turnbull for his "leadership" in backing tough reforms on problem gambling.

Only a week after Mr Abbott indicated a Coalition policy would rely heavily on a voluntary pre-commitment scheme, Mr Costello said the measure would not work.

"Problem gamblers just will not do it. Voluntary pre-commitment is a contradiction in terms," Mr Costello said.

Mr Abbott's discussion paper had outlined plans to seek written advice about the feasibility of a national voluntary pre-commitment program.

It followed Mr Turnbull's refusal last month to back his leader's vow to roll back Labor's proposed mandatory pre-commitment technology if the Coalition won government.

Liberal sources said Mr Turnbull's ambition for leadership had not waned, and he was becoming "active" again.

Liberal voters are all yellow chickens!

Tony Abbott is fingered on so many fronts he might also very possibly go by the name of "SPICE RACK!"

Seriously, Tony 'SPICE RACK' Abbott does have a certain ring to it!

MILLIONS of small-business owners will secure a tax windfall under the mining tax when they buy new assets up to the value of $6500.

But the fate of the tax windfall now rests with the independents after Tony Abbott's leadership group confirmed it would not only oppose the mining tax but repeal the small business tax write-offs if elected.

New computers, printers, fridges and other tradies' equipment will qualify for instant tax write-off from July 1 next year if the laws pass Parliament.

The tax write-off is also uncapped, allowing business to claim for more than one new asset.

That's an increase from the current arrangements which only allow tax write-offs for assets up to only $1000.

New figures obtained by The Sunday Mail confirm how the tax write-off would work. For example, a bricklayer purchasing a new cement mixer, brick saw, brick elevator and trailer worth around $13,000 would secure a cashflow benefit of $3770 in the first year the goods were purchased.

Treasurer Wayne Swan warned Mr Abbott's opposition to the tax write-off would be a blow for small business.

"The millions of hard-working Aussie small business all around our country are the backbone of our economy and deserve all the support we can provide," Mr Swan told The Sunday Mail.

"That's why it's so important we spread the benefits of the mining boom to all Australians with this tax break for small business  worth about $1 billion a year.

"This will be a really serious cashflow boost for a lot of small businesses doing it tough, and that will be good for the economy and good for Aussie jobs."

The write-off for new business assets is on top of a separate measure allowing small operators to claim a $5000 tax write-off for when they buy a ute, car or business vehicle after July next year.

But the passage of the tax breaks is being blocked by the Coalition, which has now vowed to repeal all of the new measures funded by the mining tax apart from the plan to increase the superannuation guarantee from 9 to 12 per cent.

Council of Small Business of Australia executive director Peter Strong said his members would always welcome decisions that made tax easier and freed up cash.

The tax windfall for new business assets will be available to all businesses with a turnover of less than $2 million, with the government funding the measure from the mining tax.

Abbott supports the mining pillage, but the question IS Where does the National party support lay?

National senators fail to vote on their own policy!

Posted

14 11 2011

INDEPENDENT Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott says the National Party’s absence during a Senate vote on its own coal-seam gas policy is inexplicable.

“At the start of the week, the National Party belatedly outlined its blueprint for coal-seam gas development in Australia,” Mr Oakeshott said.

“It’s very first principle was: No coal-seam gas development should proceed where it poses a significant impact to the quality of groundwater or surface water systems. It must be absolutely clear that no coal-seam gas development should occur unless it is proven safe for the environment.

“Seventy-two hours later, the Nationals’ core principle, word for word, was put to the Senate and was voted down by the Liberal Party and the Labor Party.

“Worse still, the five National Party senators failed to show.

“The community has every right to ask how serious is the National Party on resolving the land management conflict between farmers and miners when they couldn’t be bothered to even turn up to vote for their own policy.

“An awful lot of waxing seems to have occurred since the hairy-chested position of the party’s federal leader just three days earlier.

“This would be a first in Australian politics – where a political party has failed to vote for their own policy announcement of the same week,” Mr Oakeshott said.

“Actions certainly speak louder than words in politics, and the Nationals’ absence in Parliament is not lost on the communities of the Manning Valley, the Camden Haven and the Gloucester Basin.”
