Besides, you abuse people, anyone that abuses other posters should  automatically be ruled out.

Aye. If there must be mods they should be selected from the ranks of the unwilling and those with enough intestinal fortitude to accept some argy bargy, deliver and receive some insults from words on a computer screen without it affecting their sense of self worth and equilibrium.

They should not be from those hopping up and down desperate to volunteer shouting "me Sir, me Sir, make me mod Sir!!!".

I would also disallow any softcocks who have in the past made continual complaints to mods to get others banned.

Fortunately it's not up to you to make that decision. The only members concerned about bans are those who have been banned from here in the past. If you behave yourself - there's no reason for anyone to complain about you. You're flying under the radar at present - so you have no need to worry.

Was that a warning?  Because I offered an opinion that the easily offended and think skinned who pester the mods to get other people banned (whom I described as softcocks) are not themselves suitable to be moderators?

You may well feel that way, I don't.  Thankfully contrary opinions are not banned here yet.  But I can think of a few members who if granted mod powers would change that.  It will be a dead and dying forum if that ever happens hence my post offering that opinion informed by observing once vibrant forums killed by heavy handed censors quick to find offence.

Or those censors who are offended and affronted by being out debated or simply because they find another forum personality annoying.  So intolerant.   Cool

Who do you think is offended by your comments and will complain about you?  You haven't drawn attention to yourself yet - so you're under the radar as are most of the members here. Of course it wasn't a warning - just a direct comment.

FD usually makes the right decision. He's not silly enough to let anyone moderate the main board, after all he's kept Ozpolitic alive since 2006 - longer than most forums. He's invested a lot of his time and energy into building it up and ensuring it runs smoothly.

It would be unnatural not to become irritated at times with various members, but between FD and the global moderators - I'm sure they would choose someone who is a fair person.

Please don't be afraid to volunteer yourself.

The most important skill is being able to tell the difference between a personal insult and criticising what someone posted. For some reason this is a rare skill, though some of the trolls know exactly where the line is.

They should.

Some cross it regularly, IMO.

Can't you chose Freediver... You know the peeps here and who would be good for the role... then ask them in private msg if they would accept the role.

Actually this forum seems to have gotten fairly big, and a few of the suggested candidates I don't interact with much. That is why I am seeking people's feedback.

I think Alinta would make a good moderator. I've seen how she "doesn't react" on Yahoo for years and years.  Honest about her opinions and doesn't make things personal.  She will quietly defend something getting attacked without herself joining in the drama.

She's fairly new here, which could act as an advantage as she won't know the history of who likes who, bla bla bla.. So in that sense would make an impartial honest decision.

On top of that she appears to have a lot of knowledge re politics, and Aussie life in general.

Hi Kat...  ***waves***

I don't think I have once heard Alinta abuse anyone!  Most of us lose it at some point and let rip!  But Alinta appears to have a quiet way about her (much like "it-is-the-light) - a quality not often seen on mbs.

Anyway that's my thoughts for what it's worth!

Many of the established members wouldn't have a clue who she is. She's only been here 5 minutes - which of course isn't a bad thing, but there would be plenty of people who would like to know who has access to their details and be able to trust them.

A few of the ex members of Yahoo are an unknown quantity.

Fair comment.  And we yahooligans do have a poor reputation so I can understand your concern.
