Aussie kid in Bali prison sentence appeal dopey!
Nov 26th, 2011 at 1:18pm

That kid from Lake Macquarie in NSW who is in prison for possessing a few grams of marijuana in Bali needs better legal counsel, or to get his parents to butt out if they are the ones calling for an appeal. The sentence handed down in the Bali courtroom means he'll be out in less than two weeks taking into account time already served. Even the prosecutors aren't going to appeal. But if there is an appeal on his behalf because of his lawyer or his parents want to appeal, he could well end up with a longer sentence. Hardly seems worth the risk to me! I'd rather cop the next week and a bit on the chin knowing I'll be home for Christmas instead of a risky appeal that could see me jailed for much longer.

Who said they were appealing the sentence?

Maybe they're getting used to the good service.

I'm a bit worried about the 23cent fine, all the potheads will be storming the place.

His lawyer initially said he may appeal the sentence, but I think that common sense took hold fairly quickly and they are going to accept the verdict and count themselves very lucky. It was pointed out that the appeal process would take longer than the original sentence.

A 23 cent fine along with a $100K legal bill.
I hope the kids worth selling the family home for.

Don't know.
If they did the government might have something to say on the subject.
Proceeds of crime, or what not.
I suppose it depends on who it is.
Chopper Reid is still writing books and making money about his previous lifes exploits, David Hicks hasn't made a cracker from his book sales thanks to the government.

Yeah, but Chopper did serve his full sentences...So technically, he's already paid full price for what he did...
