not if you just go to mars. they wont be able to get us on mars for at least 50 years.

The problem with mars is that the lower gravity ensures anyone living there will soon become physically feeble compared to the earth-based ubermensch, with their robust 1.0 gravity.
So, I propose that leftards be sent to Mars instead - after all, they are used to being weaklings.

they worship weakness and weak people as well so it'd be precisely their thing.

problem is getting them to move.

We'd have to make all our own electronics ourselves then.
That would suck.

Smiley not if you enjoy electronics. And really we have to stop being hole diggers at some point.

the naievete of that statement is breathtaking... we have NO semiconductor industry whatseover.

isolationists are idiots.

who's fault is that Luddite ?? Didn't Intel want to come here and set up shop but the libbos didn't want to offer them a good deal so they split and setup in another country which meant they offered decent career paths and jobs to other countries and Australians carried on shearing sheep and digging poo out of the ground or working for tin pot electronics companies with no long term vision Sad Nothing has changed Sad

Nail,
you're asking the wrong questions.

Good  questions would be :

Is your superannuation safe?
Is your money in the bank safe?

So you know better than the economists longy? In 2007 we could excuse your ignorance because very few economists picked up on the global financial crises that later hit.

This time we have history on our side and in our face on a daily basis if you care to watch some "global news".

You are ignoring the facts because you are heavily mortgaged and you stand to lose out big time. Bad luck! you should have listened instead of laughing in the face of good advice.

You better choose two tents and an en-suite because you'll be in them for a long time.

Actually Pansi, if Longy was heavily mortgaged, and the world turns to Sh!t and hyperinflation is the order of the day, Longy would actually stand to gain significantly if heavily indebted; the debt would be absolutely worthless and could likely be retired with a weeks wages.

Just as a side note: They say you could line all the worlds economists head to toe around the equator and they still won't reach a conclusion.

Even a stopped watch is right twice a day!

The Germans know how well hyperinflation works, and I can't see them going at it again.

Equally, the US knows the other side of the coin (Deflation), see the Great Depression and there's not much joy there either!

The Truth is, there is no joy in either a hyperinflation or Deflation, both will kick the guts out of the system!

Longweekend 's latest ruse is to pretend to be an expert on business.
Don't listen to a word - he knows nothing.
He probably has never done: a ledger , a journal or a trial balance.

Some economists are talking about the possibility of a world depression if Europe can't get its house in order.

I suppose we have to experience at least one depression every century followed by a massive war in order to kick start the economy again. Such is the capitalist system of greed  Sad

So what do you suggest we all do .. become communists?

you'll find all of those systems including capitalism will eventually fail. Capitalism requires exponential growth which the planet cannot possibly support so is doomed to failure !!

Again I ask .. what do YOU suggest we all do??

Lisa,
Can I ask, what you think is likely to happen, IF we continue with the status quo & why?

In respect of going to Communism or Socilaism etc, I think that's unlikely!

If I were to take a stab in the dark and that's all any of us can do, here & now, I would think Capitalism Mk2 is the most likely outcome.

However, Capitalism Mk2 would most likely turn out to be a re-of the left overs between Capitalism Mk1 & Socialism and it would also be destined to failure.

I don't know that the following is likely to gain much traction, but unless there are some basic changes to the human Psyche (see the following) and quickly, then WE MAY find that the last century, was our best?

No. No need for one... yet.

But as they say... Cometh the hour (hopefully) cometh the man (/woman).

But I think Europe's (and America's) hour is coming.

Roosevelt never had to deal with problems of the magnitude facing us, that's the ugly truth. If there was a way it would've been dealt with between the GFC and now. What is called for is a new system and not a messiah. That's part of the old system.

I am not interested in doing deals with share market capitalism, or those who support that economy - I am all for a new system and for skilling up Aussies again in trade skills and letting them do what they do best.  Shareholder capitalists are not of much use and will be suited for only the most menial of tasks since their house of cards is doomed, if you can get them to work.  The important thing is Australians need proper trade skills and qualifications pathways readily available and we need to get that happening - if a depression happens organised corporate greed and human inequality has left us totally screwed.

Dead right, and probably one of the most sensible things I've seen you post for some time.

This country will go no-where but further down-hill if this is not done, preferably immediately.

It should be compulsory for companies to take on untrained staff and TRAIN them.

It should ALSO be compulsory for the Govt to make RELEVANT training available to ALL
those on welfare who wish to undertake it, INCLUDING those on WfD.

This is currently NOT happening, to Australia's detriment and SHAME.

And it WON'T happen as long as politicians and business leaders are addicted to greed and the 'quick-fix'.

You can bet that in times of great austerity, the national psyche is saved from collapse by a 'Messiah' installed in its high office more than a trembling greyface.

Ironically, when Churchill was contemplating Britain's likely fate (being a successful German invasion), he wrote that he hoped a British 'Hitler' would rise up and rally the British people... (Presumably he imagined himself to be drunk in exile, imprisoned or dead).

Thank god, in wartime, Australia had MacArthur Grin
