No, Abbott will lose ground because he wedged himself.

The only thing wedged is between Bob Browns cheeks and I don't mean face cheeks..............maybe I do.

You would have thought that a communist country would tax their people first using the environment as an excuse. Guess Australia and the labor party are well ahead of their comrads.

BTW, just because China does something, does not make it right and as we know about the failed climate change freaks, following a fraud is never right.

China $1.59/tonne
Australia $23/tonne

sounds a lot like a carbon tax that tells the world 'we have a carbon tax' while doing absolutely noting at all.

and as usual, the Greens fell for it.

The tax would begin at a rate of 10 yuan ($1.59) per tonne of carbon dioxide, and gradually increase depending on a company's emission levels

China is planning to launch a series of pilot carbon markets and is also mulling a cap on overall energy and coal consumption over the 2011-2015 period.

Or China is setting up the mechanism ... meanwhile Abbott has signed his death warrant. Now will the Libs die with him, or will they cut him lose.

It is funny to see that a 10%er like the greens voters, thinks that Abbott and the  liberals, that are popular all the while stating their kill the bill policy against the carbon tax, can come on here like a fool and state that liberals are gone because of the kill the bill against the carbon tax.

The real world is outside of your mum's basement kiddo.

Conservatives see the world through their party's eyes and think the rest of the world are the liars their ayatolla abbott is.

Greens have revealed what a fool Abbott is by giving him enough rope and then sitting back while Mr Negative tied the noose.

Cream Green Dreamers, yous dunno much does yous.

Surely yous endangered worm worshippers can komphrehend what China's incentive is or reason to strive is ?

China's motivation to move is to CONTROL POLLUTION as they have a massive pollution problem. Now before yous rush up and dive into the endangered frog pond, POLLUTION is NOT caused by CO2, it is caused largely by motor vehicle unburnt fuel plus SO2 + CO + some other bits and pieces. The pollution SMOG is so bad that in the busy cities that one can barely see across the street - now that is bad. Also a lot of their rivers are pretty crook. As a lot of China is very cold they would not mind a bit of warming.

China will, of course, encourage delusional loonies like Prime Minister Bob Brown and the Communist Greens to proceed at full speed towards economic destruction and they will happily produce as much "green" stuff as Bob etc can eat and they will be more than happy to accept money from the ETS racket to absorb CO2 into some forest or other which may not even actually exist.

Make the most of what's left of your time because, after the next election, your heroes will be looking for a new job after hordes of them lose their seats. The Communist Greens will soon follow at the double dissolution and, finally, the sunshine of intelligent and competent government will again shine through bathing Australia in glorious prosperity. The solar panels should work pretty good too.

China to levy carbon tax before 2015 - report

Jan 5 (Reuters) - China's biggest energy-consuming companies are likely to face a direct tax on carbon dioxide emissions by 2015, the Xinhua-backed Economic Information Daily reported on Thursday, citing government sources.

It said proposals for a new environmental taxation system had already been submitted for review to the Ministry of Finance and were expected to be implemented before the end of the 2011-2015 five-year plan.

Drawn up by the ministry's Financial Science Research Institute, the proposals include setting up an independent tax on greenhouse gas emissions that would focus on big consumers of coal, crude oil and natural gas.

The proposals call for the tax to be levied by as early as this year, but the newspaper said economic uncertainties would likely delay the launch.

The tax would begin at a rate of 10 yuan ($1.59) per tonne of carbon dioxide, and gradually increase depending on a company's emission levels, the report said. It did not elaborate on when the higher tax bands would kick in.

The National Bureau of Statistics said late last year that it was working to set up a system to measure carbon emissions at major industrial companies, a move crucial to the country's plans to establish pilot carbon markets and a carbon tax.

The country emitted 8.33 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2010, a quarter of the global total, according to BP's annual Statistical Review of World Energy released last June.

Beijing has pledged to reduce carbon intensity -- the amount produced per unit of gross domestic product -- by 17 percent over 2011-2015, and big heavy industrial emitters will be compelled to cut CO2 produced per unit of output by more than 20 percent by the end of 2015.

China is planning to launch a series of pilot carbon markets and is also mulling a cap on overall energy and coal consumption over the 2011-2015 period. ($1 = 6.2946 yuan)       (Reporting by David Stanway; Editing by Chris Lewis)
