And next time Australians protest at Pine Gap, should they be whisked away to Gitmo.

An armed Japan are committing illegal activities in our waters and our government allows them to abduct them out of Australia. Meanwhile Labor spys on Australians peacefully protesting coal stations.

How come the ALP are not watching the Japanese, like they are watching peaceful protestors?

like those peaceful protesters that climbed aboard a foreign owned ship uninvited  you mean?

An armed Japanese ship engaged in illegal activities in Australian territory.

An Armed ship that Australia should of been watching but your mate Gillard couldn't be bothered. More worried about boats to our north with refugees, rather  than armed boats south, butchering whales illegally.

It's NOT an 'armed ship'....it's a ship, possibly carrying armed men...

...not to mention they probably taste very nice.

Whale Steak

4 portions

4 slices of whalemeat @ 150 - 180 g
Salt and pepper, preferably freshly ground
4 onion rings
2 dessert spoonfulls of finely diced green or red peppers
1 dessert spoonful of finely diced parsley
1 dessert spoonful of finely diced gherkins

Carve the meat into slices of about 1.5 to 2 cm thick, beat them with your hands and press them into shape. Preheat the frying pan and melt some butter in it. Brown the butter before adding the meat. Fry the steaks on both sides. Whale meat should be fried for about 4-5 minutes on each side. The steaks taste best when they are medium rare, but they should be warmed right through and not eaten raw. Serve the steaks on a plate, place an onion ring on each of them and fill it with peppers, parsley and gherkins. Potato scollops taste good together with the steaks. Serve with a bowl of good, crisp lettuce and salad.

I don't know..I've heard it's very tough and chewy...although that might depend on the preparation and cooking...Which isn't the actual point...the point is, commercial whaling isn't legal right now (other than 'aboriginal' or 'traditional' whaling) and hiding commercial whaling under the banner of scientific whaling is crap..

It's not the taste or texture that I would worry about.
It's the high levels of mercury.

No matter your views on whaling , anybody would be crazy to eat it.

Sounds yummo to me....

Quote:
Along with a couple of draft Sapporos, our whale dishes at last arrive. Dig in! Don't let your whale get cold! The whale steak is delicious. It tastes exactly like regular steak, except with the barest hint of a fishy aftertaste. I could eat whale steak every day. But the fried whale is less appetizing. Chewy. Fishy and chewy. Not enough breading and grease. But I'm thinking chicken-fried whale could be quite good.

No not really...Orcas are closer to the dolphin family....not really whales, despite the name....
Think humans and chimps...

That trainer was lucky- this one died. And you have to ask, is the whale worth more than the trainer? It seems it went on for a while and nothing serious was done to help.

An international moratorium on commercial whaling has been in place since 1986. But many people in Japan still consume cetaceans, particularly toothed whales. New research suggests that eating these whale products may have unexpected consequences. The results of a study that will appear in the June 15 edition of the Journal of Environmental Science and Technology indicate that packaged whale meat in Japan contains dangerously high levels of mercury.

By the way, the Japanese didn't abduct them. The three men in question voluntarily boarded the ship. That the Japanese are refusing to release them due to their illegal boarding does not constitute abduction.

Pfft. I crack open and suck a thermometer dry after a good streak. It really tops off a good meal.

Yes, I know that...however, under the 'traditional whaling' exception to the moratorium, the hunting must be carried out using the old style or 'historic' methods.....Somehow I doubt the 17th, 18th and 19th century Japanese whale hunts took place in the Antarctic. There are still several towns in Japan that hunt whales in their traditional waters, and using almost traditional methods...

p.s I'm against the current 'scientific research' hunts....but have no problem with the Inuit, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, the Antillies, Russia and Indonesia...or even the 'local' Japanese and Australian/Pacific Island hunts...

But the Southern Ocean/Antarctic hunts ARE commercial, not traditional or scientific....

Given that it was an 8000lb (3600kg) animal....exactly what could they do???...Orcas are carnivores....it's like lion tamers, you take your life in your hands everytime...
