Hear hear Nail,
Can Longweekend explain why we use petrol at all?

We sell gas to the Chinese for 4 cents a litre.
We should have been using gas in all cars for the last 30 years.

I think it's because the oil companies control all our governments.

badweekend would have you believe that people were going to keep driving gas guzzlers no matter how high the cost of fossil fool. Just another vomit eating exercise for badweekend as the 4 cylinder Mazda 3 outsells the Commodore and the Ford Falcon slips to 9th place with a 36% drop in sales Cheesy LOL

And this is the same dude that claims to write for motoring magazines. Walter Mitty Cheesy LOL

Now tell us about this supposed assistance that other businesses get Cheesy LOL

As a Pharmaceutical company, we received back 33c for every $1 in legitimate R&D that we spent in Australia on products that would be sold and marketed in Australia.

It was called the P3 Government R&D Assistance Program and was run by the Department of Innovation and Technology.

We received back over $77m over the life of our application in direct cash payments from the Australian Government.

It was audited and could not include R&D outside of Australia or for products marketed and sold outside of Australia.

Now for the small player what assistance is there apart from a scummy and lousy 125% tax concession ??

Since labor got in the R&D grants now only apply to green technologies except if you are a polluting car manufacturer of course then you get 10's or 100's of of millions Sad

I can't tell you about small companies.
I have only ever worked for large multi-nationals.

You asked what R&D was given to other businesses.

We were able to claim both $77m+ in P3 R&D Grants and the R&D Tax Concession.
I was in charge of the accounting submission and working with the tax team to do it.

It was a very good programme and we marketed 3 anti-cancer products as a result and paid for several clinical trials.

What about an ALL Australian business where the profits stay in Australia ??

It seems the Government favours multinational corporations when it comes to doling out money for R&D Sad What sort of corruption is this ??

You're behind the times mate. They have nobble the ausindustry grants so that they only apply to 'green' technologies. And have you ever tried to apply for an ausindustry grant ?? Obviously not !! You have more chance of winning the lottery Sad It's bullshit for most Aussie businesses  except for multinational corporations who have no problems getting the big big $$$$ Sad

You can get a stingy 125% R&D tax concession but then you have to employ an accountant to work it all out for you and so you end up losing money on the accountants fees. My accountant said it wasn't really worth it and was a gimmick Sad
