Quote:To Barrry O'farrell and his excusiees;
'The National Highway was established by the National Highway Act 1974 when Gough Whitlam was Prime Minister of Australia. Before then, while the Federal Government helped to fund major roads, it did not assume direct responsibility for their construction or upkeep. The National Highway was financed entirely by the Federal Government, though State and Territory Governments are responsible for the actual construction and maintenance of the roads that form part of the National Highway.'
.......
Far from excuses, I see that O'Farrell had put up the money for this before this accident..

The shocking scene after the highway collision at Urunga in which the driver of a utlity and a young boy sleeping in his home died.
A speed camera was recently removed on the Pacific Highway near the site where a truck slammed into a house on this morning, killing two people.
NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell said that the camera at Urunga, on the NSW mid north coast, was one of a number that had been removed as a result of a report from the state's Auditor-General.
"Let's not get ahead of outselves here," he told reporters. "Let the police do their work, see whether it was speed, see whether it was human error or another factor."

Mr O'Farrell said the crash, which killed a ute driver and an 11-year-old boy asleep in his bedroom, had been another tragic accident on a notorious road that needs upgrading. Seven other people were taken to hospital.
Mr O'Farrell said both the state and federal governments were determined to fix the Pacific Highway in Urunga on the mid north coast.
"We put additional funding in last year's budget to ensure that ... we finally get a dual carriageway on the Pacific Highway. It can't come soon enough," he said today.
"The federal government has set a time frame of 2016. I think that's going to be tight but we've certainly put dollars on the table."
He said planning for a Urunga bypass is underway.
"This stretch of road is having planning work done for its upgrade and that upgrade could start within the next two years," Mr O'Farrell said.
"We represent all the seats along the highway, members of my team have lived with the deaths, the injuries this road has caused for too long."
Mr O'Farrell said he would visit the area if necessary.
"This should be used as a reminder of the dangers of driving on country roads."
The B-double truck and the ute collided on the Pacific Highway at Urunga, south of Coffs Harbour, before hurtling off the road and smashing into the house about 5am.
The driver of the ute, aged in his 20s, and an 11-year-old boy sleeping in his bedroom were killed.
