I've done the Sydney/Brisbane trip a few times over the past 10/11 years and have seen some improvements in that period.

I've also seen patchwork carried out on the same stretches of highway trip after trip.

The most annoying thing, though, was the bits (anywhere between 5 and 10Km) where speed was limited to 40kph and there was not a worker in sight for the whole strip.

No workers, no machinery, just 40kph signs.

Angry

Frustrating as it is, I know the reason for that. It is so that we don't get used to driving above 40km/h so that when work recommences, we will not exceed the roadwork speed limit. It's a pain in the backside, but it's done to protect the safety of the workers. Given that, I don't mind adding an extra minute or so to my trip.

Fair enough, A-P and it sounds good, but 6 trips in 3 years on one section along saw the low limits and no work.
I'll see if I can work out the section and let you know.

I was also just looking a some figures for the M7 here in Sydney.

40Km, 2 lane, dual carriageway.
Complete with overpasses, underpasses, on ramps, off ramps, tolling facilities, fixed and variable signage, the works.

2001- Tenders called.
2003- Construction begun.
2005- Opened.

Why does it take so long with the Pacific Hwy?

Apologies, A-P.

My better half informs me that last year the speed limit was raised to 80kph.

Still nothing being done though.

You're kidding, right? There is an enormous difference in length between the M7 and Pacific Hwy.

Apologies.
I thought it was clear that I was talking about "stretches/sections" of the Pacific Hwy.

The section at Tintenbar has been 'under construction' for quite some time now.

There is another section that has been going for longer and I'm just trying to work out where it is.

I'm not sure because I only worry about start/finish points and ETA.
Everything in between is just roadway.

I think the Tintenbar sect. is part of the Ballina By-pass.

Probably all of 10/12 Km.

At the risk of repeating it (however relevant it maybe).
But the coroner recommended the Pacific Hwy be duel carriage way after the Kempsey bus crash.Over 20 years ago.
Mr Abbott was part of the government for close enough to 11 years, WTF happened Tony??????
Remember that 22 billion surplus, the last of many bragged about throughout the years.
bugger OFF Abbott, your a useless piece of sh!t.
Gillard might be sh!t, but at least she isn't a dog with no moral compass.

I pretty much agree with Gizmo.....All governments must share the blame and fixing the highway is the only thing that matters.....Surely now their will be a knee jerk reaction as their always is when this Government is condemned.....Abbott is an opportunistic prick though and had every opportunity to do something while the Coalition was in office.....How much money did the Howard Government waste on tax cuts during his term while infrastructure and road upgrades where ignored to buy votes???

I didn't hear Abbott protesting back then that roads were more important than fridge magnets.

Well considering her party is championing a couple of blokes to have the right to tie the knot, I think she and her party has lost their 'moral compass'.
