One More Chance
Feb 9th, 2012 at 8:30am

At 4.05am on January 5, 2012 I got one of those phone calls, that no one ever wants to get, but many, if not most of us, probably will, at some point in our lives.

The caller was my mother, ringing to say that my father had fallen. He had hit his head and had been taken to hospital, where the doctors had told her that the family should come straight away.

The immediate family arrived at the hospital quickly and the doctors explained that the options were to operate or to let him go. However, because of the nature of the injury and existing medical problems, there was no guarantee there would be a successful outcome to the operation.

It was decided, to given him whatever chance there may be and the operation went ahead.

On February 7, after quite some time in various high dependency wards, my father came home.

Although he is still far from being out of danger, because of the nature of his injuries, he has nevertheless been given “one more chance”. The whole family hopes he converts this chance into a home run and that he can now live a good life, for many years to come!

That said, my father & mother are both into their 80’s, so the time ahead for both of them & the immediate family will no doubt be full of difficulties and risks to be overcome.

I simply wish to thank you, in anticipation of your understanding.

my best wishes to you perc.. and your dear old dad..they dont make them like him anymore you know... TOUGH.

I am so glad he was able to have an operation..

in my case I have a crook hip..[very painful].. however a heart condition makes it a problem when it comes to an operation I am afraid..

at the moment I am experimenting with morphine patches to help live with the pain..

so well done to your dad be positive and you have better things to do than monitor  this lot LOL..

Oh Percy I'm sorry Sad  I've only just seen this now.

I'm glad your dad seems to be on the mend, and hope it's (careful) leaps and bounds from here!

PN, all the best for your dad and your family. I do hope you all have many more happy times together still.

And you definitely have no need to thank us!

Again, thank you, to each of you who posted personal messages and each of you who may not have, but thought about their own parents or loved ones!

I had meant to lock this thread, when I posted my original post, as I just wanted members to be aware that I may not be online, as much, for a while, but I will still try to keep things in line, if you get my drift!

Anyway time to lock this thread!
