Could it be because some low income people cant afford it.  Also let us remember, there are low income people, that are on the very bare minimum.   Sad

Having bad teeth is not life threatening.

What next, Medicare covering boob jobs ?

Of course it can be. I thought even a Doctor of Jolly would know better than that.

She pointed to the UK as an example. I have no idea what went on there and my mouth was full at the time, so I didn't ask.

Does anybody know?

I don't think I would start arguing with my dentist while I'm in the chair either.

As to what the position in the UK is like, admittedly this is not recent, but when I was on an extended working holiday in Scotland about 16 years ago, I came down with the worst toothache I have ever experienced.  I went to a local dentist and ended up needing root canal therapy and a filling.  because of the pain I was in, they fitted me in for an appointment later that day, with a second appointment about a week later to finisg the job.  I can't remember how much it cost me, but I think it was in the region of £15 or maybe a bit more.

Bullshit i was at the dentist yesterday, the bill was $270. NIB covered $175.50 leaving me $94.50 to pay out of my pocket. now i know and everyone else knows that when people drop out of privet health monthy costs go up. i'm on a fitter/machinist on award rate.. look it up.. i get almost 600 a week after tax.

Try paying even $94.50 on a pensioners income which is $374.40 a week.

My last dental bill was $800 for two porcelain fillings.

An easy way to stop private health contributions rising is to put a cap on the earnings of who can and who cant access government funded health/denticare ie if you earn 'over' the basic wage YOU CAN'T ACCESS HEALTH CARE  and have to maintain private cover.

Try telling a heart surgeon that bad teeth aren't life threatening!

You don't seem to have a good knowledge of health issues for someone who calls themselves DOCTOR.

BOOB JOBS!!!! wtf has cosmetic boob jobs have to do with HEALTH????

well from experience anything free or cheap is usually taken advantage of......

I remember National Health Teeth back in England.. huge white things... Grin.. but people had several pairs.. for some unknown reason..

I think people should pay for everything... not hundreds of course work it out..but to walk in and not pay anything is wrong..

we have bizarre ideas about health.. look at the cost of an ambulance..imagine if they were free every man and his dog would use them..

The rich have been getting subsidized dental care for far too long its time the productive value of the labour of the working class was spent on dental care for the low income earners..... Cool

Ambulance cover is approximately $80 A YEAR. For pensioners half that amount ... about $3.60 a month or less than a dollar a week ... Practically nothing.

Oh yeah if you abuse the system you get charged at the going rate.

I  would think that many people on middle incomes struggle to afford a trip to the dentist.

This industry has been out of control for a few decades.
