According to a Galaxy Poll, published in Queensland's Sunday Mail, the Liberal National Party retains a huge 20-point advantage on a two-party preferred basis.
The LNP leads Labor 60-to-40 per cent in the poll of 800 voters taken on Thursday and Friday nights. The results were the same as the previous poll in mid-February.
The Sunday Mail says Labor, which currently holds 51 seats, could end up with as few as 12 seats. If Labor can take any comfort from the poll, it might be that while LNP leader Campbell Newman is the preferred premier over the incumbent Anna Bligh, he only leads by eight points, 51-43. All opinion polls have a margin of error, but the huge LNP lead suggests Mr Newman will be Queensland's next premier, as long as wins the seat of Ashgrove, where he is in a tight race with incumbent Kate Jones. Link - http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-news-national/queensland-labor-to-be-w...================================= As I have said previously, it is likely that the Liberals will be in power in all states & Federally.
With Queensland seemingly a forgone conclusion, that only leaves South Australia & the next Federal election left, before Labor disappear completely.
However, for those who may think that will solve all of our problems, rest assured it will not!
IN FACT, HAVING THE LIBERALS IN POWER, WILL ONLY EXACERBATE OUR ECONOMIC WOES, AS THEY REVERT TO THEIR STANDARD, GENERAL AUS-TERITY APPROACH! What a fool. Under the previous Coalition government, this country's economy was one of the strongest and fastest-growing in the entire world. After paying off Keating's debt of nearly $100bn, Howard/Costello set about creating an enormous surplus that - suprise, suprise - Labor has gone and wasted through its economic incompetence! Australia seems to always be far better off under a Coalition government than a Labor government. Again, as previously stated, I believe that the Liberals Debt reduction program under Howard/Costello was one of the 3 best Economic moves made by OZ Politicians over many decades, the other 2 being - 1) The Float of the OZ$. 2) The introduction of the Super Guarantee.
Without wasting too much time on it, let me say that there are "normal business/government Economic cycles" and depending on what point the cycle is at will largely dictate the actions that governments can take!
That said, the recent, current and near future events, that are pushing the local (OZ) and Global Economy, are well outside the factors usually associated with the "normal Economic cycle"!
I've told you that, simply to say this, that stimulating the Economy, by throwing money at it, was the correct Economic play for the years since the current GFC started back in 2007 (within limits), which happens to coincide with when Labor came to power, although Labor still managed a few stuff ups.
However, to pay credit where it is entitled, Labor may not have had the leeway, if the Libs hadn't got the Debt back under control.
That said, the Howard/ Costello years had a unique, once in history, window of opportunity to get Debt down, because they enjoyed the Peak years of the Baby Boomers Boom. However, the Libs could have & should have done much more, but we are certainly much better off than many other countries, because their Pollies did very little and in a number of instances they went backward.
In any event that's all history, because the period ahead will be well outside "normal Economic cycles" and if any government introduces general AUS-terity programs, IT WILL ONLY EXACERBATE THE ECONOMIC DECLINE OF THAT COUNTRY! Simply throwing money at a problem is not an indicator of good economic policy. If anything, it is the complete opposite. A few stuff-ups? Tell that to the families of the young men who died in the bungled/rorted insulation scheme and to those families who were lucky to live when their houses burned down. Tell that to the families who lost their life savings when their businesses went bust due to bungled stimulus scheme's. Tell that to schools who did not get value for money in the bungled and massively rorted BER. Tell that to the Australian people who now have to pay back an ever-increasing debt thanks to the incompetence of a panic-stricken Labor government that had absolutely no idea what on earth it was doing during the GFC, as evidenced by the deaths, houses burnt down and billions of dollars wasted. At that point, it was an absolute necessity and IF IT HADN'T HAPPENED THEN ALL OF THOSE OTHER PROBLEMS YOU REFERRED TO MAY WELL HAVE BEEN INSIGNIFICANT COMPARED TO WHAT MAY HAVE FOLLOWED.
A look at what is going on in Europe, Japan & the USA may provide some insight into what may have happened & indeed what is now in store here, irrespective of whether Labor or the Liberals are in power.
I say irrespective, but again I hark back to the Liberals likely AUS-terity programs and say again that it would exacerbate what will undoubtedly be a bad Economic climate anyhow! you do realise they too had the same stimuls programs that we had? and look at the differences in outcomes? could it possibly be that the fundamental of their economy were very differen than ours?
