Premier O'Farrell acts to lower electricity prices
Mar 18th, 2012 at 3:01pm

For far too long, residents and businesses in NSW have had to put up with electricity prices skyrocketing because of Labor incompetence and unwillingness to upgrade ageing electricity infrastructure. Finally, however, we have a Premier who is prepared to act to bring down the price of electricity!

How is he going to do this if NSW is going to keep on relying on dirty fossil fuels to generate electicity?

O’Farrell’s “personal view” is anti-wind

August 19, 2011

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell, already under attack for his policies on the solar bonus scheme, has now been accused of being against wind energy after comments on commercial radio in Sydney.
Speaking on 2GB, O’Farrell said that 19 wind farm applications had been received before the election and none had been lodged since.
“”We haven’t approved any applications and if I had my way we wouldn’t,” he said. “None of this would be necessary if the Federal Government hadnt signed up to a 20 percent renewable energy target.”
The comments prompted a flood of criticism from the renewable energy lobby and caused the Premier to issue a statement attempting to clarify his position.
He said the comments represented his “personal view” and that the government’s policy of commitment to the renewable energy target remained unchanged. NSW created a renewable energy taskforce in July charged with formulating a strategy for the state.

Don't let O'Farrell and Baillieu destroy wind and solar!

...

It's a perilous time for renewable energy in Australia. In NSW and Victoria, state premiers Barry O'Farrell and Ted Baillieu are taking the axe to solar feed in tariffs and declaring war on the wind industry.

In NSW, Premier O'Farrell slashed the solar feed in tariff without warning and despite promises has failed to replace it with anything that will keep the solar industry alive. Nearly 4000 jobs could be lost by the end of the year.
Two weeks ago he said if he had his way there would not be another wind turbine constructed in NSW.

Wind farms have been proven to be economically and environmentally inefficient when compared to other "green" energy alternatives. It is by far the most expensive method of producing "green" power and is nowhere near reliable enough to be used as a primary source of power generation. Good on Barry for being against what is a huge expense for very little gain.

Thank goodness, some sanity. He is looking to make the cost to consumer less, not skyrocket on poor technology.

Solar rebate shutdown defended as good budget practice

by: James Massola
From:The Australian
February 29, 20124:19PM

THE nation's solar industry says 7200 jobs are at risk after the surprise axing of the Gillard government's solar hot water rebate program. The Gillard government was unapologetic today, saying the halting of the program with 30 minutes' notice was good budget practice.

Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change, Mark Dreyfus, said industry had always known the rebate would wind up in 2012, but conceded that manufacturers had only been told yesterday the program was about to end.

“It would not have been appropriate to tell individual businesses because to do so would give a competitive advantage to an individual business,” he said.

Clean Energy Council Acting Chief Executive Kane Thornton said the unexpected decision had put green jobs at risk.

So if its good enough for Gillard than its good enough for  O'Farrell.  Grin

So, if it's not Coal & it's not renewables, WHAT IS GOING TO BE USED TO GENERATE POWER, AT A LOWER COST STRUCTURE?

UNEXPECTED ?

As with the insulation and solar panel subsidies - the solar water program gave NO implication of a limitless budget, EITHER

I managed to "get my act together" on BOTH the solar rebates
It's DIFFICULT to have  sympathy for those that sat on their arses - and DIDN'T

So you took a handout funded by the poor who can't afford to install panels or who rent that have been forced to pay higher prices for electricity to fund the subsidies.

Meanwhile in southern Asia they are using Australian coal to produce electricity for a much lower price then what Australians pay...

NSW electricity merger plan slammed

A plan to merge NSW's electricity distribution firms will lead to job losses and blackouts, the Greens say.

NSW Greens say the plan will concentrate political power into the hands of the remaining electricity distributor.

'One large company will mean even more political power in the hands of the board and even less capacity for the government to reject unnecessary spending plans that will inevitably inflate household power bills,' Upper House MP John Kaye said in a statement.

'Inevitably front line jobs will be lost as the so-called efficiency gains are eaten up in yet more unnecessary capital works projects.

'The loss of local depots and maintenance teams will mean more blackouts.'

Labor energy spokesman Luke Foley also criticised the plan, saying it would lead to job losses.
