You can achieve virtually any result you want from a public opinion poll by the way you word the question and the time of day you carry out the poll.

I reckon the result could be quite different if you started the question with the words: "Imagine Craig Thomson was a member of your family......."

To their CREDIT, the 50% Murdoch owned Newspoll show transparency in repeating the question put to those polled in their spreadsheets, verbatim

Morgan, Nielsen and Galaxy are less inclined to do so

So reading, on their web-site, of someone without charge ...

Quote:
The continuing saga of disgraced former Labor MP Craig Thomson ...

... DOES make you WONDER

Would the result be the same, had the question been ...

"Bearing in mind - after three years, at least two police investigations and NO CHARGES ever laid - do you think the Opposition were a bit "over the top" in their pursuit of him" ?

it appears the public dont think so.

The public "think" based ENTIRELY on what is presented in the MEDIA

If this arrangement were satisfactory, we would have no need for COURTS

Maybe the question should have been

Married family man and SA Liberal MP and Minister Mark Brindle was caught red handed shagging a retarded man on his office desk.

A  should all Liberals be tarred with the same brush
B  should he have resigned his seat given the govt at the time only had a one seat majority in the house.
C should the Labor opposition driven him and his family to the point of suicide until he left parliament

as disgraceful as it was, it wasnt illegal. stealing $500,000 and taking a whole lot more from secret commissions IS.

if you want guilt ONLY assigned by a court of law then your post has zero value.

make up your mind.

If he has broken the law he will be convicted and then kicked out of parliament but until then he has every right to the assumption of innocence and every right to his seat just as others from both sides of politics have in the past.

you mean like Brindal?????

'Mistaken identity': prostitute unsure if she slept with Thomson

June 6, 2012 - 8:11PM.

The former sex worker at the centre of allegations against federal MP Craig Thomson tonight recanted her story that she had slept with him while he was at the Health Services Union — and accused the Nine Network of misrepresenting her.

The woman tonight apologised to Mr Thomson and his family, and argued it had been a case of mistaken identity. "I feel absolutely terrible for Craig Thomson and his family."

The woman was in negotiations with the Nine Network's A Current Affair program, which had tracked her down, secured a sworn statement, and offered first $50,000, then $60,000, for an on-camera interview.

Tonight she fronted the rival Seven Network Today Tonight program to say she had not slept with Mr Thomson, and would retract her sworn statement to that effect.

The woman said she had told A Current Affair on May 21 via a text message that she was now "totally unsure" that she slept with Mr Thomson, and was therefore "not a credible witness."

She said the program went ahead anyway three days later and broadcast the allegation without her knowledge, permission or consent. "Once (reporter Justin Armsden) aired it, I felt really screwed over."

A Current Affair went to air with the allegation on the evening of May 24 after first putting the material to Mr Thomson during a 90-minute meeting in his Canberra office.

Mr Thomson declined to view the material, and the next morning accused the Nine Network of gutter journalism.

The woman, who was mildly disguised with a wig and black-rimmed glasses, told Today Tonight she had checked her personal records and her passport indicated she had been in New Zealand in May 2005, the time she was supposed to have slept with Mr Thomson.

She said she had been unaware when approached by A Current Affair of the seriousness of Mr Thomson's political situation, and no-one had told her the allegation would "bring down the government."

She said she had not received payment from either the Nine or Seven Networks.

Today Tonight said the woman had been interviewed by Victorian police after her interview.

Victoria police tonight confirmed their inquiries into Mr Thomson were continuing, and declined to comment on "an ongoing investigation."

Mr Thomson gave Today Tonight a statement saying he was relieved the woman had recanted the explosive allegation. His spokesman later issued a one line statement from the MP. "In relation to tonight's interview on Channel Seven, the program speaks for itself."

A Current Affair did not mention the issue in its regular program.

Just because this particular prostitute recanted - does that means he is acquitted of all findings?

This doesnt change anything, it just stops the water cooler talk about her involvement. Maybe she was an opportunist or someone has gotten to her. It doesnt really matter in terms of thomson and linking $770 paid to a whore house with no kitchen, for a dinner out.

Thomson is obviously pretty dodgy but its beginning to look like he's an amateur compared to those that are after his scalp.

She has realised she may be subpoenaed to repeat the claim in COURT - under OATH

NOT recommended, when immigration records have you not even in Australia, at the time of the alleged incident
