'Psycho' link probed after hand, foot sent to Canadian schools

Police say human remains sent in separate packages have been found at two schools in the western Canadian city of Vancouver, following the grisly dismemberment of a Chinese student in Montreal.

Investigators said they could not yet link the discoveries in Vancouver to the murder of Lin Jun, who was allegedly killed by Luka Rocco Magnotta.

"The first package containing what appeared to be a human hand was opened by a staff member" at a Vancouver elementary school, police said in a statement.

The second package "containing what appeared to be a human foot" was found by staff at another school a few hours later, they said, emphasising that there was so far "no indication of an identity" of the victim.

"The investigation will centre on identifying the victim and from where the packages were mailed. Investigators will liaise with any outside police agencies as required," Vancouver police said.

Earlier in the day, police in Montreal confirmed that a severed hand and foot sent to the offices of Canadian political parties belonged to Lin Jun, who had been dating the 29-year-old Magnotta.

Magnotta was arrested in an internet cafe in Berlin after a days-long global manhunt and is now in German custody awaiting extradition to Canada.

The suspect has been dubbed the 'Canadian Psycho' for allegedly killing Lin with an ice pick and carving up his body.

Magnotta is widely believed to have filmed the crime and posted the video online.

The victim's torso, which has also been identified as belonging to Lin, was discovered in a suitcase outside Magnotta's apartment building, authorities said earlier.

Police sources in Montreal had said Lin's head, a hand and a foot were still missing.

When I posted on this the other day he had send the foot to a conservative party and the hand to the labour party. Now its schools? SOB

So what exactly is the argument? - or is there one other than a series of interesting if not slightly selective articles from sites with a particular agenda?

OK, so the incidence of bipolar disorders in the total population is around 0.7%, and the incidence in any defined population such as gays, artists, actors or whatever is 1.4%, so what are the implications ? (if any). The actual risk factor is so low as to be meaningless, especially when you compare it to the major risk factors (such as being a female adolescent, poverty, family history of the condition etc)

I'd say that the study is therefore flawed, however, the link between evangelical religion and schizophrenia is well established.

But this doesn't add up. It seems that gays self-identify as gays, regardless if they're or aren't accepted as equal or as people.
Do you really believe Sydney's Gay Mardi Gras will cease to exist once they are recognized as 'people'? I very much doubt it. There are people who proudly display the fact that they're gay. For some, this seems to encompass their whole identity.
I also take issue with your claim that they're not viewed as people. Who says they're not people?

About as much as the george street disco scene will disappear. Oxford st gays arent all gays though. Its a singles scene for them same as george st discos are a singles scene for heteros. Doesnt make ALL gays like that. In fact it doesnt now either.

Of course gays are gays and heteros are heteros but its a sexual preference not a lifestyle. What ppl use as an example of the "gay lifestyle" is just their singles scene. Heteros have one too.

So it'll just magically disappear once that magical word is attained: equality? No it won't. There's whole heap of academic literature around gays and lesbians. They're viewed in the Academe, particularly in The Humanities, as the new creators. Heterosexuality is viewed as the norm, as a bland, stifling, all encompassing behaviour that perpetuates the status quo. Whereas gays and lesbians are the different, the creative, the flamboyant, the rupturers of the prevailing morality. This is proudly displayed and promoted among the chattering classes. They are, most importantly, self-identifying as gay. Identifying with heterosexuals is fraternizing with the enemy.
If you were up to date on what goes on in The Humanities and social sciences you'd know this.
