Go read some history especially the obligations of Germany within the Versailles treaty ending WW1.
You'll find that the the socialist part of the party name had very little in common with what we now regard as socialism in an economic sense.
It was all about National pride.

On the first day, Hitler shook hands only with the German victors and then left the stadium. Olympic committee officials insisted Hitler greet every medalist or none at all.     "Hitler had a certain time to come to the stadium and a certain time to leave". "It happened he had to leave before the victory ceremony after the 100 meters.
