Jun 2nd, 2012 at 3:28pm

Premier Campbell Newman will not halt port and industry development on Queensland's coast to protect Great Barrier Reef

HALTING port and industry development along Queensland's coast to protect the Great Barrier Reef is not an option, Premier Campbell Newman says.

http://greens-win.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/premier-campbell-newman-will-not-halt....

Dangerous times for Queenslanders, with a madman in charge.

Newman is destroying so many industries so to please Clive Palmer.

Is Newman the new wrecker of Queensland?
Will Queensland become a wasteland not fit to live in when Newman has finished appeasing the mining billionaires?

Greens give the non billionaires a voice in the political arena.

Where as Palmer, via newman, just wants to sit on these people.

"We are in the coal business." -Newman

He is supposed to be in the good governance business, maybe Clive hasn't got the memo to tell him.

This comes from a song on an album called 'almost alive in the green triangle' It is quite old and relates to the period when Joh was in charge and environment was simply an impediment to his vision.

It is the thinking again and it is across all political thinking except the greens. Labor pay it lip service because they think it might make them look like the party of the past that had real courage and the libs are licking their lips at the chance to exploit everything while the electorates guard is down. I fear there will be Sweet F/A left when they are finished and yet again we will wonder why did it happen.

I don't think you understand the issues here (in fact I know that you don't). For a start, there are already coal ports in the region in question. (Gladstone, Port Alma, Hay Point and Abbott Point .) There are real issues, but you'd have to read the UNESCO Report in detail to actually get at them. I wonder how many of the journalists have actually bothered to research the issues and read the report rather than just echoing the bickering between the Federal Labor government and the Queensland LNP government - because that's all that's reaching the papers. In comparison to Canberra and the Newman government,  Jo Bjelke Petersen wasn't a very skilled chook feeder. I groan when I hear Andrew Powell's public utterances on this subject.

The damage caused to the Gladstone harbour ecosystem was preventable (hint: D of ASS)- by the Bligh Government. Despite their environmental bureaucracy, they missed some painfully obvious points, and now it's being cleaned up (on the sly). No government has been transparent and honest about the real issues here, but it will come out eventually.

Just stick with the precept that all politicians are lying bastards, ignore their press releases and read actual scientific reports (eg UNESCO) instead.

Ah Yes but is it not all those silly and wrong scientific reports that got us into all this environmental poo in the first place. I will back the sceptic side and ignore science in favour of profit. Wink Wink
