ok this is the most disturbing thing that has happened in a while

Quote:
When Luka Rocco Magnotta tortured and killed kittens and posted videos of his acts online, there was little doubt he was disturbed.

Then after being questioned by journalists in England, he wrote an email to The Sun newspaper in London warning that in the next video he would release, the victims would not be small animals.

Police had several opportunities to reach Magnotta before his crimes escalated, but a psychiatrist who formerly worked at Montreal’s Pinel Institute said there is little police could have done to stop last week’s crime — in which a 33-year-old man was killed and dismembered, his torso stuffed in a suitcase in Montreal, and his hand and foot mailed to the Conservative and Liberal Party headquarters in Ottawa.

Magnotta has been identified as the main suspect in the killing, and there is an international warrant out for his arrest.

Magnotta had a prominent online profile with disturbing posts. In one of his most recent blog posts, he referred to himself as Necrophilia Serial Killer Luka Magnotta. He had also recorded himself placing kittens in plastic bags, and then sucking out the air with a vacuum cleaner to suffocate them.

For that act, and others made into videos, animal rights activists were trying to find Magnotta and get authorities to intervene. Magnotta was found by reporters while he was in London, and after they asked him about the animal cruelty allegations, he sent a letter to The Sun: “in the near future you will be hearing from me again. This time, however, the victims won’t be small animals. I will however, send you a copy of the new video I’m going to be making. You see, killing is different than smoking . . . with smoking you can actually quit.

“Once you kill, and taste blood, it’s impossible to stop.”
‘You see, killing is different than smoking . . . with smoking you can actually quit’

While police in Britain investigated this letter, it didn’t lead to any action, since Magnotta returned to Canada, and this was outside their jurisdiction.

Jacques Lesage, a psychiatrist who formerly worked at the Philippe Pinel Institute — a forensic psychiatric hospital — said Magnotta’s pattern is similar to that of a serial killer who commits smaller acts before his behaviour escalates.

“You have to take these threats seriously,” he said. “If you read something like that that shows a clear intention (to commit a crime). You need to worry.”

Stephen Hart, a professor of psychology at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, agreed. He said often before someone commits such a crime, he signals his intentions.

“It’s similar to people who have thoughts of suicide,” he said. “They’re clearly preoccupied by the idea and they’re potentially ambivalent about them. So they talk about them publicly and see how people respond.”

Lesage said if police intervene early on, it is possible to stop a pattern before it escalates.

Facebook

Luka Magnotta told London's The Sun that next time he killed “the victims won’t be small animals.” “Once you kill, and taste blood, it’s impossible to stop,” he added.

“But at the same time, there is little police could have done here,” he said. “If they had arrested him for animal cruelty, it’s a minimal punishment. They could not have arrested him for making threats, because it was too vague.”

He added that from what he has seen from Magnotta’s behaviour, he doesn’t think he would have been intimidated by police.

“It’s a pleasure to him to defy the authorities and police,” he said. “He gives clues, but at the same time he says, ‘You’ll never catch me.’”

Hart said there is a mechanism in the Criminal Code that allows courts to impose criminal peace bonds, which allow authorities to impose conditions on a person they believe has the potential for violence.

“If we had not just his character problems and fascination with violence, but the kitten killing and the necrophiliac writing, it would have been very easy to gather enough evidence to bring this to a judge,” he said.

He added, however, it doesn’t seem any one law enforcement body had enough information on Magnotta to be able to take such a proactive stance.

Ahh this guy. If thats the video I think it is BEWARE UNSUSPECTING FORUM USERS and dont watch it.

Apparently (I read yesterday) that the guy he killed was an ex-lover. I just tend to think that if he went to the trouble of mailing body parts to pollies there would have been a note. Either they didnt read it (lost in the gore) or it wasnt released tot he media (more likely).

I heard that he left canada. I dont see why he would go back if he got away.

I doubt they were in love. I read somewhere that the guy he killed arrived in Canada in July 2011. I also read that Magnotta sometimes dresses up as a woman, so he probably tricked the guy into thinking he was some hot girl -- although I have to say, Magnotta would have had to fake his voice.

The victim could have been gay ........ I just don't know what homosexuality means to people in China.

They were most likely just roommates and Magnotta pounced on the guy before he knew what was happening and started doing his pornographic video.

Well apparently he has been caught now. That ABC article someone posted somewhere was outright lies it seems. WTH @ the ABC. He did send the body parts to politicians not schools.

Okay then. Apparently BOTH stories were right. He sent the left foot and hand to political parties and the right foot and hand to schools. And there were notes but we arent being told what the notes said.

Quote:
MONTREAL (AP) — Police investigating the grisly killing of a Chinese student said Wednesday that mailed packages containing the man's body parts also included notes.

The case was discovered last week when Jun Lin's left hand and left foot were mailed to Canada's top political parties. The investigation spread to the other end of the country this week as more body parts were mailed from Montreal to two schools in Vancouver. Those parcels contained a right hand and a right foot, and police said they would conduct DNA tests to confirm a match, Montreal Police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere said.

"They were the same limbs we were looking for," Lafreniere said. The victim's head is still unaccounted for.

Lafreniere said the parcels mailed to the Conservative and Liberal parties, and at least one of the Vancouver packages contained a note. He declined to say to whom they were addressed, or what they said, for fear of encouraging copycat crimes.

Lin's lover, porn actor Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, was arrested in Berlin on Monday and could be extradited to Canada by the end of the week.

Lafreniere said Magnotta had either lived in Vancouver or passed through there at one point, but could not otherwise say if he had a connection to those two schools. In 2003, Magnotta worked on a porn movie for a company that was based in Vancouver, according to Jeff Vanzetti, webmaster for the U.S. based Internet Adult Film Database. It was not immediately known if the movie was filmed in Vancouver, however.

Investigators say Magnotta videotaped the killing and dismemberment in his apartment and posted it online. The video also shows the suspect eating parts of the body, police said. A copy of the video viewed by The Associated Press did not show anyone eating the body but did show a man using a fork and knife on it. Police suggested they have access to more extensive video of the killing, possibly an unedited version.

Magnotta was caught at an Internet cafe in Berlin after evading police for days while he partied in Paris. He has told German authorities he would not fight extradition.

German authorities are waiting on Canada's formal extradition request, Martin Steltner, a spokesman for Berlin prosecutors, said Wednesday. The Canadian Embassy in Berlin declined to comment on when Ottawa may file the official papers seeking extradition.

Magnotta arrived in Berlin on Saturday on a bus from Paris and stayed with a friend, or someone he met on the Internet, for two nights before he was captured, Steltner said. Investigators in Germany were looking for more information on the person.

Lafreniere said they saw video Wednesday that the suspect might have made while on the run.

Lin's parents, meanwhile, arrived in Montreal from China late Tuesday and met with investigators and officials from Concordia university on Wednesday, said Zheng Xu, a press spokesman at the Chinese consulate. Lin, 33, was registered as an undergraduate in the department of engineering and computer science.

Yan Shi, the head of Concordia's Chinese student association, met the family and described the painful scene at the airport when they arrived Tuesday.

"It's heartbreaking," Yan Shi said. "Lin's mother was very emotional. She was crying all the time ... She could barely walk. We had to help her."

Cmdr. Denis Mainville, the head investigator of the Montreal police major crimes unit, said investigators will review hundreds of homicide cases over the last 30 years throughout Quebec for any possible links to Magnotta. Mainville said such a review is routine in such cases.

Meanwhile, DNA tests have confirmed that the body parts mailed to the Conservative and Liberal parties were Lin's remains, police said, and they have footage of Magnotta mailing the two parcels that were sent to Ottawa.

Police concerns about copycats grew Wednesday after a fake foot, made of rubber, was found in a Montreal street. Lafreniere said it looked very realistic and probably had been used in movie production.

Gillies contributed from Toronto. Associated Press writers Phil Couvrette in Ottawa, Ontario, David Rising in Berlin and Jeremy Hainsworth in Vancouver, British Columbia contributed to this report.
