Why are the greens saying they are the viable alternative yet the voters are disagreeing.

Only a steady 12% and labors voting is plummeting.  Pretty sad result for the greens in my opinion.

While Labor and the Coalitions vote fluctuates all over the place the Green vote remains steady and is in fact slowly going up. Having a strong supporter base is a good thing for the Greens and it means no matter which party wins the next election they will have to negotiate any policy changes with the Greens.
The Nats have only around 2% of the vote and the LNP are half that of the Greens so the Greens are easily the third power in federal Australian politics.

Not necessarily. If the Greens attempt to block Abbott from rescinding the carbon tax, they will be signing their political death warrants. The ensuing double dissolution election would decimate the Greens on the back of a huge Coalition victory with a thumping mandate to rescind the carbon tax. Go on Milne, I dare you to vote against rescinding the carbon tax!

The next election will basically be a referendum on the carbon tax with Gillard and the ALP supporting it while Abbott and the Coalition want it abolished. The choice will be clear for voters - a vote for Labor is a vote for the carbon tax and a vote for the Coalition is a vote against a carbon tax. Given that nearly all analysts predict a landslide win by the Abbott-led Coalition, he would have a thumping majority and a serious mandate to abolish the carbon tax.

If the ALP have any respect left for the electorate(and that's a huge "IF"), they'll follow the lead of the Coalition and vote for rescinding the carbon tax - just as the Coalition did not vote against changes to workplace relations laws that saw WorkChoices scrapped.

very true. the CT repeal legislation will be a test of character and principle for hte ALP. By refusing to pass it they could end up in opposition for a generation.

The next election is 18 months away. Carbon tax would have been in for that long already. Ppl will be used to it. Mobs have short attention spans and not many will remember this fuss now. I doubt it would be a good idea for abbott to bring it up again after that long especially since he prolly cant undo it anyway. On the other hand he is certainly stupid enough to try that.
